Found a new freak (Mammillaria elongata forma mostruosa) or ?

Recommended Posts

I bought this from a WA cactus society stall and all the guy said was he didn't know what it was and he called it Roy.

It is Fredish but in some ways it isnt. Same with the elongater.

Thoughts ?

What ever it is I think its cool :)

try a bit on its own roots and see if it grows like fred, sometimes grafting messes with the plant a fiar bit and ends up showing not its normal growth... maybe.

looks pretty different than fred tho..

It is lacking a lot of chlorophyll the guy I bought it off said it wouldn't grow on its own roots but I don't know if he had actually tried.

The pics are shitty but if you look at the color of the stock then you get more of an idea of the true color of the scion

Hhhmmm  , It's hard to say.

When I look at photos of "fred" in seems to be quite variable, there is a photo of a yellow specimen at Cactus-Art that looks similar to your pics.

I really would not have a clue, It's a nice looking plant though :drool2:! I still have to add fred to my collection.

I looked there first and trolled through heaps of google images but nothing really made me think that is what it is. When I first saw it I thought it was a variegated Fred.

You have a small grafted Fred it is just at my place

I also have no idea what this one is as I don't know where to start looking ( came from noshie )

He told me but I cant remember  I only got it a couple of weeks ago the problem I have with it is the stock looks like it is on its last legs and there are some dead bits in the cluster. I would love to be able to re graft it or root it but I think I will have to cut it up to do it.

There is a albino/ red pigment fred out there in Europe perhaps similar this being the slightly variegated. The slight variation could be just plumping from being well grafted? That is a ripper of a rebutia should have orange flowers I had a little one but lost it in all this rain.

Sure that first one is Mammillaria?

Ribs, tuberclers and spines look more Gymno to my eyes. :scratchhead:

i see whats gone on here. the spirit of the "hens and chicks" poppy has somehow got into the cactus. dont know how you would remove it though =P
