0 mushroomman Posted December 18, 2012 I'd say they were both T. peruvianus, but that first one sure does look a bit like my Huntington Botanical T. santaensis, but I don't think T. santaensis has made it to Australia yet. ~Michael~ Thanks Michael , would you know anywhere that I could buy santaensis seeds from? 0 M S Smith Posted December 19, 2012 I don't think I've ever seen seed of T. santaensis before. I got a couple small plants from Mesa Garden and the one from the Huntington. I think the Mesa Garden plants were from seed, but by the looks of them I suspect they are crossed with something else. ~Michael~
0 Evil Genius Posted December 19, 2012 Before reading the other posts, i was thinking Santaensis. After reading the other comments, i think it even more.
0 Hellonasty Posted December 19, 2012 Sorry to spoil the party but I Immediately thought T.Peruvianus, looks extremely similar to a Peruvianus I have and all indicators of the plant point to Peru and considering how unlikely it would be for it to be Santaensis. I'm almost sure it's a Peru.
0 dionysus Posted December 19, 2012 Hellonasty, as i believe, T. Santaensis would correctly fall under T. Peruvianus, but the name Santaensis is still accurate for some plants resulting from seed or plants first collected from an area in Peru, although im not entirely sure which region the name refers. how likely it is that this plant is a known 'Santaensis' cultivar I'm unsure, but the possibility it resulted from geneology of this area isn't so unlikely. dio
0 tripsis Posted December 19, 2012 Sacred Succulents considers T. santaensis to be a pachanoid. It comes from the Rio Santa Valley in Peru, hence the name. There are T. santaensis from SS seed in Australia, but they're only young plants still. Herbalistics sold plants of them a while back, which could easily be as large as the one in question in this thread. Where did you get the plant Mushroomman? I got both of them from a little cactus nursery in Quakers hill the owner of if was really sick the last couple of times I went there so I only got to speak to his wife and she doesn't really know anything about them, but I do remember him saying years ago when I first went there that all of his trichs are from seeds he got from the USA.
