Cacti garden getting dug up!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

This might interest anyone who can pick up cacti in s/e QLD or if you see something you like thats little enough or can be made into a cutting, I can post.

I woke up this morning filling good until I got a phone call of a mate, to tell me he will be destroying an old couple's cacti garden in a couple of days :BANGHEAD2: . I jumped in the car filled with emotions, Excitement "what might I find", Disappointment "why get rid of a long term cacti garden", Anger & Hatred " fucking grand-kids should not come before cactus!!"

Anyway when I got there & no one was home so I went for a walk around a took some photos.

Now i'm not 100% sure what there plans are with these plants, as far as I know they want them removed. If you see anything that interest you please post here & I'll see what I can do  . I would be deverstated to see these plants go to the greenwaste!

Cheers

The crested euphobia is a beast but a bit to big to send my way. :(

I would be interested in the crest near the Fero's if it becomes available :)

I can imagine them going to the cactus nursery and saying "We'll have one of everything that goes outdoors".

Looks like I'm a sucker for cactus, haha.

My mate has told me its all going, even the things with out spines. He has put in the quote to rip it up & chip it & take it to the dump(2 days work). He starts next week, so tomorrow I will start digging & taking everything I can, I have little time & the pressure is on, BUT I promise all of my fellow cacti lovers out there its not going to the dump!! The only thing I ask of you all in return, is people will have to help me move them on, as I rent a house & by the start of next week my yard will be full of plants & cuttings, I will have heaps of great deals & freebies for anyone who can get them.

When I get them home, I will take better photos & do my best to ID what I can & post it here for all to see

Cheers

Thanks for all the offers for help . I asked the bloke thats doing the job if I can take a few mates to do a day hunting & gathering & he was not keen

(He has quoted to clean out the garden & take it away & get his $$, He thinks if a group cacti enthusiasts rock up & blow there load over the garden, the owners will realize what they could be worth & not pay him. Trust me it crossed my mind last night to go & tell the owners I will clean out the garden & talk the plants as payment.)

Anyway like I was saying, I will spend the next few days working my ass off & bring it all back to mine. One weekend in the beginning of December I will organize some food & drinks & open my house to any members who are keen these plants or would just like to meet :)

Regards

jox

Yeah euphorbia look real nice but that deadly sap puts me off I almost went bind last time I had to trash one. I hit it with an axe and it sprayed in my eye it was one of the most painful things I've ever felt for 5 hours. Lots of them will even burn your skin badly unless you wash the sap off strait away so be careful if when you dig them up.

You are a lucky man jox I was just have a better look at those photos if they are getting rid of everything I would be grabbing all those aloe heaps of those agava some me those are awsome old and hard to come by. In the 4th last photo behind the pilosocereus there is a draceana drako (probably incorrect spelling) dragon tree apparently ppl sell smaller ones than that for 500 bucks

Scratch that last msg id grab everything especially if I didn't know what it was. Id really like that giant gasteria I can see poking out it looks like an aloe but has no spines and has hard leaves if your not keeping that one.
