3 tier plant stand or some other storage solution

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys, my plant collection has been growing heaps mainly because of the cacti over population.

Wonder if you guys know whats a good place to get one of those 3 tier plant stand. I plan to put it in my balcony but some of them can be a bit pricey. I went to bunnings on the weekend and they were asking 150 bucks for a crappy aluminum one.....

I want to fit about 18 150 mil in diameter pots there so I guess it gotta be about 120 cm width.

Can you guys recommend some storage ideas ?

Cheers

Why not try and build one yourself then you can do it anyway you want and it will probably be cheaper.

It really depends on how hands on you are and or what tools or workshop you might have access to. I have built my own three tier stand out of 25mm steel square tube and steel mesh and it is fully welded I don't know what it cost me to make as I never really checked. This was an easy option for me because I have access to a fully equipped engineering workshop. My father built a couple out of square Aluminum / steel tube and used the plastic connectors to assemble them this worked out well for him as there was no welding and once all of the pieces of tube were cut to length it was just a matter of assembling them and putting a few pop rivets or screws in to stop the plastic joiners pulling out of the tubes. He used mesh for the shelves which can be removed to make it easier to move.

Here are a couple of links for the plastic joiners there are a lot more types available and some are more suited for aluminum and some for steel
