3 ID questions

Question

Please help me ID my new cacti. All were very yellow when I got them but they are greening up now.

I bought the first cactus at a nursery in California, it had no label and the owners were unable to identify it:

The second cactus was in a box marked free left at the side of the road:

This cactus was also in the free box.

lol i like it we give different opinions about picture 2. not a gymno IMO. it looks a bit like a notocactus, not sure if its a monster or a morphing from damage. which species of noto? no idea, the spines like trichocereoid in fact.

look up N.uebelmanianus [both pink and yellow flowered vars exist]

pica 1+3 look like cereus monstrosa species, dunno which for sure.. I am growing some from seed [cereus peruvian monster] and I will providing pics soons though... maybe EG is right and 1 = jamacaru and 3=peruvianus

1. Cereus jamacaru or some Pilosocereus [azureus?]

2. maybe Mammillaria spinosissima "rubrispina"

3. mammilaria

HI jonnyqp, good luck with your id's.

I think everyone's on the money with pics 1 & 3, Cereus ? monstrose, I've seen it sold at the shops as "fairy castle cacti".

@ mutant, I have read that cereus monstrose seeds will grow into normal cereus most of the time, you need to use cuttings

to keep the monstrose.

This is what i have read ( I haven't grown them from seed myself ).

no that's not true, at least for my seed.

the best percent of the seed was monster seedlings from early on, few normal ones...
