reptyle Posted November 7, 2003 Is it possible (or at all practical) to clone A. maidenii? What conditions would be best for this??
Torsten Posted November 8, 2003 It has been done. Wandjina Gardens hosts what we believe is the first tissue cultured maidenii ever. Ask darklight for more information if you want to know more. The limitation is that this was cloned from seed and not from a mature plant. I doubt plant material is all that easy/possible.
Skulking Lurker Posted November 9, 2003 They germinate quite readily from seed. Unless you had a particularly active individual, you'd probably not bother. I've got a number of seedlings on the go currently.
Darklight Posted November 11, 2003 Skulking Lurker:Unless you had a particularly active individual, you'd probably not bother. TC is *much* more work than planting seed! Go the seed wherever possible- both for ethics and ease, unless its rare, difficult to propagate, possibly past it's viability ( embryo rescue onto media containing coconut milk )or you're planning on doing some genetic workYou may be able to clone from a mature specimen, but embryonic tissue is more 'plastic' and responsive to hormones, and is eaier to disinfest. mangrovemoth Posted December 5, 2003 we grow them from seed by the hundreds at the Greening Australia nursery in Bris for $1.10 each.
