a maidenii clone

Recommended Posts

Is it possible (or at all practical) to clone A. maidenii?

What conditions would be best for this??

It has been done. Wandjina Gardens hosts what we believe is the first tissue cultured maidenii ever. Ask darklight for more information if you want to know more. The limitation is that this was cloned from seed and not from a mature plant. I doubt plant material is all that easy/possible.

They germinate quite readily from seed. Unless you had a particularly active individual, you'd probably not bother. I've got a number of seedlings on the go currently.

TC is *much* more work than planting seed! Go the seed wherever possible- both for ethics and ease, unless its rare, difficult to propagate, possibly past it's viability ( embryo rescue onto media containing coconut milk )or you're planning on doing some genetic work

You may be able to clone from a mature specimen, but embryonic tissue is more 'plastic' and responsive to hormones, and is eaier to disinfest.
