mystic_b Posted January 19, 2012 So the first 2 photos were taken almost exactly one month ago and the last 2 I took earlier today. Who knew some shade would help so much!

niggles Posted January 19, 2012 Yeah a little shade is a wonderful thing. On a hot day last month my greenhouse started to lean in the heat, direct sunlight caught one of my buttons for a few hours, and its got an ugly burn now. Fortunately Im so obsessed it didnt take more than a few hours before I noticed and corrected the problem. My baby will be fine. I like to check my buttons every day, to admire and make sure theres no unexpected calamities taking place.
Chef Posted January 19, 2012 Would you call mine hardened off if it dosent get bothered by direct light for 9-10 hours ? Purple on new growth but then it goes away??
myco Posted January 19, 2012 i keep my lophs aswell as my few other little prized cacti like the crest i recieved recently and some small grafts under shade cloth i find they get good sun while still being pretty well protected under there aswell i think shade is definately good especially for lophs
tedzr Posted January 19, 2012 interesting ideas, I had no idea. I think I remember you posting those pics before mystic? You were a little worried? They've healed up very well, almost looks like you've touched up the colours with photoshop. Good stuff!

mystic_b Posted January 21, 2012 (edited) I just put up some shade cloth (it's about 30-40% shade) and it's under that almost the whole day, although gets about 2 hours of direct sunlight in the evening. It was in direct sunlight for about 4ish hours of the day Edited January 21, 2012 by mystic_b
bit Posted January 21, 2012 Their natural habitat is shade isn't it? I would definitely recommend shade cloth for the hot hours of the day at least.
