tipz Posted January 13, 2012 Hey chefy, I think the purpose of the stocking is to put downward pressure on the scion ? Could be wrong but it just seems to be draped over ?
Chef Posted January 13, 2012 it is tight, just i cut it a bit to big so theres some flapy bits after the point where its stuck by the spikes... i think... lol now i gotta check it >_< Chef

niggles Posted January 13, 2012 teehee hee. It did look like you'd draped some washing on your cactus on a side note.. It so lonely here at my desk.
Chef Posted January 13, 2012 U at home or work? I was bored earlier so i divied up my carnivorous plants.. always something in the garden! Chef
Bush Turkey Posted January 13, 2012 hey dude! you might need to do it again. did you make a fresh cut after the photo was takin of the stock. As soon as you make the cuts you have to put them together asap before they start drying out
Chef Posted January 13, 2012 yeah i did, i read 2 or 3 different websites grafting things and all said to do it as quick as possible and cut it a second time after removing the top from stock and the bottom of scion.. im hoping it will make it.. how long can a button last on its own?(say it dosent take?) Bush Turkey Posted January 13, 2012 ok cool! if it takes you will notice swelling in about a week. If it fails, you will still will be able to do it again. good luck

Chef Posted January 16, 2012 (edited) Well its been four days and its been pissing down rain for the last two do ya think it would be ok to remove the stocking to check that its alright? Its in the garage with the other cacti so they arent getting smashed by the wet, The wet weather would encourage disease or fungal infection wouldent it? And one last question, how small can a button be to graft it?/or what is the smallest you have grafted succesfully? myco Posted January 17, 2012 you should be ok with the weather as long as the cactus isnt actually out in the rain getting wet its also always a good idea to get some sulphur to cover its wounds with it helps it dry out quicker and helps to stop infection you can pretty much graft at any size if you have some peres you can graft tiny seedling that are only a few weeks old i havent tried myself yet but i just got some peres yesterday and have a bunch of loph seedlings that have been sprouting up over the last few weeks so i'll be giving it a go very soon good luck with ya graft
