Put Cactus Cutting in Moist Soil - Should I Remove?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just put a bridgessi cutting in a pot of soil but watered it after. I then realised I should probably leave it at least a couple of weeks before giving the soil some moisture. Should I take the cutting out and let the soil dry and then put the cutting back into the dry soil?

How fresh is the cutting? If it isnt calloused yet, i´d take it out. If its already healed, i dont think it will be a problem. Fresh Cuts tend to show more infections when they are kept in a moist enviroment.

bridgedsii\s are known to be rot prone then peruvianus and patch. So dont keep it too moist for long periods of time

It should be ok if you let the pot dry out between waterings.

People often use a pot of sand or sandy cactus mix to get a cutting rooted, rather than soil. Because it is so well drained it promotes root development and reduces the chance of rot. After a year transplant it into a bigger pot of soil.
