☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) thanks man, hoping for fast rooting! rooting mix i made up with zero planning immediately off the top of my head a few scoops of sand, a heck of a lot of perlite , a few scoops of vermiculite, a few scoops of john innes seed loam, a few scoops of reg compost, 2 pinches of blood and bone, 2 handfulls of horticultural charcoal, a lot of scoops of horticultural grit... umm even more sand and even stirred clockwise with positivity, virtue and love, and re-stirred anticlockwise to banish negativity, and a teaspoon of ormus (alchemical gold) for good measure I just sat it on top using a thick blanket to grab it with I just cant get over how LARGE it is even the areoles like eyes .. something I've never experienced before in person.. hostilis Posted May 8, 2014 Cool mutant. I'm not the best at IDing those. Validus, terscheckii, werdermannianus. and taquimbalensis are hard to tell apart sometimes. I would love to get a validus cutting. I have some growing from seed, but that's going to be a while before it's big like that.

I just ordered 2000 validus seeds to a. test em out and b. share them here and at sts , they havent arrived yet but these particular ones are sposed to be Argentinian sourced, still waiting on requests for Bolivian (all with location data) but its my frst experience of getting so far with a Czech seed supplier, I'm hoping they come golden like their reputation but anyhoo heres some pics of mine of those species Terscheckii Trichocereus terscheckii Valle Fertil San Huan Argentine same one a year later werdermannianus taquimbalensis (tacaquirensis subsp' taquimbalensis) oh and just to add some confusion heres a terscheckii with the upward spines of a taquimbalensis/werdermannianus and a validussy looking terscheckii Edited June 6, 2014 by ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ
hostilis Posted May 8, 2014 Dude!! Most of my validus seeds have failed. I have 1 seedling going from like 200 seeds sowed. Those plants are awesome btw. I'll be keeping an eye out over at shartheseeds for your validus giveaway. ;)
Evil Genius Posted May 8, 2014 So Here´s the Thing. Well, probably. Unspeakable Thunderhorse, you Plant is most likely not a Validus. It´s a Terscheckii. The Validus I Have on my Site is not a Validus either. I have checked the Documented Pics that exist of the Fields Validus, which i consider to be the right One and they don´t match! The Validus Type Validus is an extremely rare Plant. Most likely, Validus is a cross that involves a Terscheckii type Trichocereus and a spiny Peruvianus or something like that. I Need Pics of the Fields Validus for the Trichocereus Website! If anyone has some, please let me know. Jox, didn´t you have a small One? Would you be willing to share the pics for the site? Bye Eg
Getafix Posted May 8, 2014 Here's my Validus. Not sure if it's the one you are after EG?
Evil Genius Posted May 8, 2014 Yes exactly, that´s the One! Would love to use these Pics for the Trichocereus website if that´s ok for you!
Evil Genius Posted May 8, 2014 It´s difficult to ID the Validus at an Early Age, simply because the typical Spination only comes out later. Do you see the downward Spination, pointing to the left? That is something that occurs on that Fields Validus too. I can´t see that on my so-called Validus and neither on the Plant from Thunderhorse. But if you look closely at Getafixs Plant, this Spination does not show on the newer growth and can mostly be seen on old Growth on the bottom.

Jox Posted May 8, 2014 I Need Pics of the Fields Validus for the Trichocereus Website! If anyone has some, please let me know. Jox, didn´t you have a small One? Would you be willing to share the pics for the site? Bye Eg Hey EG, I would be happy to PM you some photos of my little validus for your web site , it is really starting to plump up & the spines are getting really long. After looking at Getafix's photos I am starting to wonder about mine, mind you it looks similar to mushroomman's. I will put some photos here for you to decide. I got this plants as a seedling & it came with a field number, T validus N152509a. Close up of the spines If you want photos of this EG please let me know & I will send them to you, I will also send you some photos of my albino tricho for the site Cheers Jox
Evil Genius Posted May 8, 2014 Hello Jox, thank you very much! Wanted to see the seedlings that neil logan collected for quite some time. The seedling looks very much like a taquimbalensis. Will take a closer look at it later! Great that your growing some of them. That seed is from the ss field trip!
mushroomman Posted May 8, 2014 Nice looking seedling jox! I have a couple of the T validus N152509a. This is my degrafted one and the bigger one someone posted on FB
Evil Genius Posted May 8, 2014 Looks like the Culpinensis variety from Taquimbalensis. Fantastic plant!
Jox Posted May 8, 2014 @ EG, you are a very knowledgeable man , please make sure you have a very good look at those photos & let me know your opinion. I will be disappointed if you decide it is not a validus as I thought I had validus crossed of my list , ether way it is a beasty little plant, one of my favorite plants. @ mushroomman, your plants are very nice. I am always amazed at how seeds collected from the same source can produce such variety, I can see similarities between our plants but they still look a bit different. Cheers Jox
Evil Genius Posted May 8, 2014 Yeah well, as far as i know, neil and ben weren't sure about the Id. Will check the pics of the motherplant! The seedling appears a lot like Taquimbalensis.
Micromegas Posted May 8, 2014 Is validus even a real species outside of australia? I never got a straight answer on this. My validus came from a 10ft specimen that had fallen down and broken into several pieces in a property about to be levelled for development. It was the best find in my cactus career, and I have had many I can assure you... But i have never found evidence of this plant as a wild species and all i saw in Bolivia were magnificent tersheckiis (in a very localised range) and many atacamensis. Some of the atacamensis, I might add, were reputed to have pink flowers!
djmattz0r Posted May 8, 2014 I put all my unrooted cuttings in some Turface to root, much better than that woody stuff from before EG, now you don't have to worry
Evil Genius Posted May 8, 2014 Hi Micromegas, Validus is not a real species. In my Opinion, the Fields Validus is a regional Variety of a Terscheckii or an Intermediate. If you look at it closely, it gets obvious that the Differences to a Terscheckii are so minor it is extremely hard to keep it apart. Especially if the Plant is not very large. I grow a Plant that i suspect to be Validus but since it is hard to recognize if the Plant is not at least a meter tall, i am still not sure. Mushroomman, thank you very much for sharing the Pic! Would you be ok if I´d include it on the Trichocereus website too? Your plant is definitely the Plant i know as Validus. It´s the downward Pointing spine that is a giveaway. I am sure that this Plant is being sold as some kind of Trichocereus Terscheckii Variety because every Field Collector would recognize it as one. And i guess that´s probably the most suitable name anyway.
M S Smith Posted May 8, 2014 Here's the plant from southeast Bolivia that Backeburg considered as T. validus. Probably just a form of T. terscheckii. I don't trust any of the seed. To me the plant has gained mythical status without a lot of backing on pretty much anything regarding it. ~Michael~
☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) rawrz , validus sets ya all on fire dont it me too i bought it as a validus so it stays labelled validus.. (until later when not so nooby, stubborn, snowflakey and easily misled like this edit shows and when I will realize you were right, it is a very nice terscheckii specimen and not a validus) like your chiloensis/skottsbergii advice from before EG , ive been seeing it on this site in Mutant's posts as a validus for a good year at least before buying it the hunt is now on for every damned type of validus everyone ever suspected (so long as it looks like one that is) interesting you say the leftward spines is a validus trait, theres loads on this , im looking right at em so far zelly has the lovely validus hybrids but check out his validus parent plant , is very different looking also so perhaps genetically different and thus a possible breeding candidate for other clones of actual validus -unlike this terscheckii that as a noob I am so convinced is a validus because I trusted the dude I bought it from.. (edit) maybe czech will come good with some location data and allow for some years of fun in anticipation and waiting and more waiting and more reasons to keep growing in the mean time with all the beard growing _adds an extra mind to the plight- maybe at this rate it will become one of the least rare species in cultivation in about 50 yrs hope I can help virola for that same status in some way i didnt know you wanted the terschalidus from mutant pics for adding to a post EG, I sent them hoping for ID but hey, all a learning curve with these amazing fat cactards know any sources of pure validus seed or cuts ? hookahhead Posted May 8, 2014 Since were on the subject... here's a couple grafts from zelly's crosses Validus x Lumberjack Bridgesii x Validus (front 2) This plant wasn't grafted for very long before I accidentally knocked it off a couple of months ago. However, its now rooted and growing quite lovely. T. Pachanoi "Mystery" (WSS)
Evil Genius Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) Hi Guys, will post more tomorrow since I already wear my lucky pyjamas but wanted to add something about zellys Validus. As far as I remember, Zellys Plant is the same Type like the Fields Validus. It has the same downward pointing spination, that i also seem to se in Hookaheads Pic of his Validus x Lumberjack! Of course its not as obvious as on the motherplant but i think they will turn out to be great! Edited May 8, 2014 by Evil Genius

I believe so hard right now that its a validus , and i even convinced myself that I feel the validus' pain .....having been misidentified as unspeakable myself when im really a Thunder Horse lol maybe i dont feel like posting pics of it so much now : / that was a birthday present too *fucks off with his terschalidus and never returns* (until realizing the only real place to be is SAB and what the fuck else has life to offer locally beside misery and feminastandry) Edited November 8, 2017 by ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ
