shortly Posted April 27, 2011 Dead wood, can be anywhere on the trunk from almost ground level to 60' up. They like permanently moist environments, rainforest, along creeks etc. Most of the ones we found today were in groups on dead trees. One tree had 14 stark white mushrooms from about 10cm to about 40cm across, so they stand out. I recon the ones we found were Hericium ramosum, nice firm texture & very mild flavor, went nicely with eggs & meat on flat bread. I didnt get any habitat pics because some dick didnt bring a camera because we were just retrieving some stuff from my lations before winter. Its been the wettest year in memory out on the granite belt, with flooding & savage storms all summer but now theres all manner of mushrooms everywhere If anyone has a weekend spare granite belt & the southern downs are well worth a trip away to hunt mushrooms at the moment.
