Acceptance Posted March 24, 2011 I saw these growing in a tub containing a young lemon tree last night. Anybody know what they are? Will they hurt the tree at all?
mac Posted March 24, 2011 No id sorry but i doubt they will harm the tree, they may even be beneficial breaking by down the mulch into nutrients
Acceptance Posted March 26, 2011 (edited) Thanks Mac. Shame about the ID though. I'll just add they have very thing stalks and dry out quickly on the off chance it'll help me get a name Edited March 26, 2011 by Acceptance
Undergrounder Posted March 26, 2011 Thanks Mac. Shame about the ID though. I'll just add they have very thing stalks and dry out quickly on the off chance it'll help me get a name Sounds like Conocybe lactea then? Assuming they're growing from the soil and not the woodchip mulch. Next time one pops up, stick the cap on a piece of paper and let the spores from the gills fall for a few hours. The colour of the spore print would help an ID.
Acceptance Posted April 9, 2011 Thanks Undergrounder. As yet they have not re-sprouted and the ones I tried to spore print were too dry already. We have another type growing in the lawn atm and I'm trying to get that I.D before hubby mows it. We do seem to get a fair few types.
