caludia Posted February 15, 2005 i noticed a strange.... thing... at the base of my beloved, fruiting C.arabica. darcy suggested might be a mutation or maybe the result of a viral infection. Seen anything like this before?

apothecary Posted February 15, 2005 Quite possibly just a fruiting mutation, my gnome also has a neighbour who has seen similar on many cannabis plants. Of course, I could be talking out of my ass. Apart from the accounts my gnome and his neighbour give me, and my small plant biology knowledgeset, I'm not much help.
teonanacatl Posted February 15, 2005 i seen it on mangroves and and other plants. distortion of the growing tip, kinda cristate i guess

Torsten Posted February 15, 2005 I saw it on a grevillea once. Tried to propagate it, but cuttings would not take. Multi meristems - yeah, kinda cristate.
teonanacatl Posted February 15, 2005 if i remember right if u cut them back to normal growth u will get normal growth again but everynow and then a freak one pops up. i think its damage caused by insects or disease.
caludia Posted February 15, 2005 thanks for the info everyone. I hope it's not caused by a disease. Insects & mutations I can handle BTW teonanacatl u have some lovely pics in your gallery.

Happy Cadaver Posted February 16, 2005 Somethings inhabited or changed things going on in the shoot apical meristem (SAM) causing rapid divison/mutation. Look out for the potent, mutant coffee beans
