yaguareté Posted May 17, 2010 When i'm drying edible musrooms i usually spread them on a peice of newspaper in front of a fan for between 12 and 24 hours. After this time they are much drier. To remove the last of the moisure i get a large jar with airtight lid and put about 10cm of damprid in the bottom. You can get it from the hardware store. It is just calcium chloride powder and costs about $10 for 1kg. I them put some flyscreen on top of that. i usually use about 2 layers. This is just to stop the mushrooms from touching the damp rid. The mushroom is dry enough once the stem cracks instead of bending.

sketchykid Posted May 18, 2010 Sold @ Bunnings - Calcium Chloride 3.5kgs @ $17.00 a bucket, the brand is "Midge - Moisture Absorber". (refill pack) This stuff is very effective. You can feel the moisture being sucked out of your skin, eyes, and mouth if you get too close. Certainly great @ making Fungus 'cracker dry'.
