bℓσωηG Posted April 24, 2010 Are they from a nursery or did you sprout these beauties? I suspect that you are looking at creating your own seed stock , is this the rerason for multiples of the same species? Love the Obregonia!
Hellonasty Posted April 24, 2010 Really nice mate. Valdezianus produces a great deep colour, yours is spot on. I like the obregonia's too. The kabuto in the last photo, bottom left is an interesting plant....do you know the parents ? Are they from a nursery or did you sprout these beauties? I suspect that you are looking at creating your own seed stock , is this the rerason for multiples of the same species? Love the Obregonia! hehehe its called addiction my friend :)you never have enough.
san p Posted April 24, 2010 blowng,no i dint grow them from seed myself,i cant cant seem to settle with one of any cactus though, even two doesnt seem like quite enough hellonasty,i believe that that astro hybrid is a asteria x capricorne.i have them in 5,6,7 & 8 ribbed forms, flocked and flockless, some showing more asterias some showing more caricorne. yeah its either an addiction or greed but its always good to have spares for trades etc
Quill Posted April 24, 2010 oh god. I am FILLED with jealousy. beautiful cacti mate. cheers for sharing
bℓσωηG Posted April 24, 2010 I aim at having at least two of each from waay different sources in order to make a potential cross, its a shame world quarantine laws are the way they be , would be great to do a cross tasman swap etc...

san p Posted April 24, 2010 Do obregonias need two to 'mate' and give seeds ? Great plants, live vandezianus too hi mutant,im not sure i dont know much about any of these cactus varietys,do you have any obregoina denegrii in greece? i have some smaller grade ones i could try sending you sometime since your country has such loosly enforced laws on that kind of thing. i had ago at swapping the pollen between the flowering t.valdezianus and the t.schmiedickeanus yesterday, anyone know if that might work? PD. Posted April 26, 2010 i had ago at swapping the pollen between the flowering t.valdezianus and the t.schmiedickeanus yesterday, anyone know if that might work? Should do. Personally i havent had a great deal of success trying to pollinate turbies, only one fruit out of countless times pollinating. Still worht a shot that valdezianus is a very nice lil plant
san p Posted April 27, 2010 hi mutant, will definitly send you a parcel of mixed goodies sometime in the future.probably be next grow season,im pretty new to the whole ethno cacti thing so ive just been collecting so far, havnt done any mass propagation yet. cheers PD good to know theres a chance they might fruit
Hellonasty Posted April 27, 2010 Yep I have found turbs a bit difficult with the exception of Valdezianus I get fruit most of the time from my Valdez when crossed with schwarzii or when crossed with other schmiedickeanus variants/hybrids. Good luck
