san p Posted April 24, 2010 nice looking plants. i had some very similar onesthat camelebeled (commercially) as T. huascha hi kadakuda, yeah i have seen your t.huascha crest pic on your website but couldnt get it to enlarge so i could get a closer look at it, so thanks for the comment .you have some really amazing crests on your site!im trying to find out what i need to do to import some plants into new zealand,so you might here from me soon about a monstrose and crest order san p
Hellonasty Posted April 24, 2010 Yeah crests are very hard to ID from a photo. It does Look a bit like a Cleistocactus (Borzicactus) crest and also looks similar to Spach crest, see below. http://www.cactus-art.biz/schede/CLEISTOCACTUS/Cleistocactus_sp/Cleistocactus_sp._cristata_clone_1/Cleistocactus_sp_cristata_clone_1.htm http://www.cactus-art.biz/schede/TRICHOCEREUS/Trichocereus_spachianus/Trichocereus_spachianus_cristatus/Trichacereus_spachianus_cristata.htm
san p Posted April 24, 2010 thanks for the links man,i had a closer look at the spination on mine and they dont quite match either of those two crests. i cant find pics of any t.strigosus plants on the net anywhere, mine came from a nursery thats probably new zealands biggest cactus nursery,so i think its pretty safe to take their word for now on the i.d. cheers san p
Hellonasty Posted April 24, 2010 (edited) Here is one http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/photo/2772591440106380484QSwlzS and more http://cactiguide.com/cactus/?genus=Echinopsis&species=strigosa Edited April 24, 2010 by Hellonasty
kadakuda Posted April 24, 2010 i found the best way to get a true ID on crests is graft some areoles and grow them up. they tend to grow normal, not cristate, so it should be a good method in IDing crests. the disadvantage is it is time consuming...
san p Posted April 24, 2010 (edited) hellonasty, this is the best pic i could get of the spination with my crappy camera.on average it has about 16spines per areole.,which i think is a fair few more than the spach and Borzicactus crest pics show. thanks kadakuda, ill have to try that out next summer,so do you mean just a tiny piece with one areole on it? cheers san p Edited April 24, 2010 by san p
