painted caapi?

Recommended Posts

have wondered if 'painted caapi' was a variegated plant.

saw one recently and that seems reasonable to me.

was told that the effects of smoked leaf were different to usual.an oily creamyness to flavour with very bright long lasting visual effect[oev].

t s t .

are variegated caapi plants very common?

was told the leaves could come out green and get variegated later.

I think "painted caapi" is Tetrapteris methystica.

Nobody outside it's native habitat seems to grow Tetrapteris methystica.

I'd like to obtain it.

My caapi started out all green but has developed variegation in some sections. I assume due to a mosaic virus or something. Had me quite worried at first, but it's been years since it started showing and it hasn't affected growth (she's a monster  ), so I'm not concerned about it. No photos sorry, might try to take a few pics next time i visit her.

Haven't heard of painted caapi.

And haven't bioassayed mine so no help there either regarding potency, sorry.

next time you visit her...? do you have a secret garden in the forest or something, this sounds like a good idea.

How's your plant Alice? My mate has a lot of variegated tips occurring on his caapi and he's quite worried. I think it looks cool

The monster vine got cut down when the host tree was removed. Only found out 6 months later :BANGHEAD2: Such a shame, she was a beast. Oh well, wasn't my house anymore so what can you do.

I have another grown from a cutting of that one, shows the same variegation, but not as extreme as your picture. Yours looks almost white, mine has light yellow, and doesn't cover as completely. I wouldn't worry about it if it's not affecting growth, and it doesn't seem to be. I've never had any issues.
