bℓσωηG Posted November 6, 2009 looks like a common echinopsis hybrid , they pup profusely ,i use them as a decent graft stock when small definitly handy for that , and yes mammilaria looks like an elegans ?hmmm........ but is pupping lots
mac Posted November 10, 2009 (edited) A few more pics with a couple of macro shots. And a couple more Mammillaria , i was pleased to see i had a yellow one Edited November 10, 2009 by mac
rogdog Posted November 11, 2009 I am pretty sure the Echinopsis is the hybrid 'Los Angeles', I have a bunch of them (if I ID'd them correctly). I am wondering if hybrid really means they are sterile? I would love to breed them with pach. The plants flower profusely, and pup like mad, but I haven't seen a seed pod in the 3 years I've had them. Mine are going to flower tonight
bit Posted November 11, 2009 Ooooh, please take photos of those guys in bloom! I dream of a garden like that. I've started collecting echinopsis but my collection is yet small. Here's one of mine that flowered yesterday: Echinopsis 'Spring Blush' (a paramount hybrid I think)

bℓσωηG Posted November 11, 2009 this is a bit off topic guys but may be of interest keep your pups!....for graftstock these echinopsis hybrids are good and very available...i have recently grafted a couple of lophs and trich bridge seedlings to echinopsis...if they take ill post pics also... these pics are chamaecereus(peanut cactus) grafted on to echinopsis hybrid stock, and tricho spachianus tip grafted onto echinopsis hybrid stock
karode13 Posted November 11, 2009 Love the pictures guys!
rogdog Posted November 11, 2009 (edited) WooHoo, that's what you get for sharing! I had a pipe dream of crossing my hybrid with pach, but always knew it was destined to fail, but as a graft stock...BINGO..the potential is insane. [edit] C ya suckers..gunna have 2foot pedro before Valentines day errr..just jokes, ur all still my pals! But this is big news for me, I saw the great work mac did with grafting micromegas's seed onto peres....this might just be the next new thing My dog likes to walk along the brick retaining wall that holds my echinopsis catci, and when they grow too big, and start scratching her, I knock them off with a stick, and put them in a pot. Every cut I put in a pot grows roots, and with some nutes and seaweed extract, they grow and pup. It might not be perescopsis good, but this is a very hardy stock. I just hope I can get the two to get along..but i'm a romantic like that Edited November 11, 2009 by rogdog

rogdog Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) The Echinopsis bloomed last night, they looked nice this morning, but the 39 degree temp. smashed them today Edited November 12, 2009 by rogdog
bℓσωηG Posted November 12, 2009 Nice rogdog! mine are a few weeks off yet still in wa, you know rogdog you can always get a non related echinopsis hybrid and cross them to get an echinopsis hybrid hybrid lol, when you do get round to grafting onto echinopsis hybrid stock just be sure to kick off the pups as they come, cos they do come up .... bℓσωηG Posted November 26, 2009 Tricho bridgesii seedling plumping nicely on echinopsis hyrid stock
culebra22 Posted November 26, 2009 Great show everyone! these hybrids are great, so floriferous indeed. ... non related echinopsis hybrid and cross them to get an echinopsis hybrid hybrid hehe I like this. hybrid of a hybrid x hybrid. hey just a thought regarding the Tricho on Echinopsis grafts (or Echinopsis on Echinopsis if you prefer), won't the columnar scion rapidly outgrow the stock? I assume this is only a relatively short-term arrangement?
bℓσωηG Posted November 26, 2009 yep short term, mainly used for rescue attempt from rot, withering etc...also practice for me, till get me some decent stocks
