Peruvianoid cutting ID

Question

Hey

I just got this cutting, it is extremely dehydrated. It looks like Peruvianus hybrid, can anyone make it clearer?

I am planning to cut the tip and let it root.

Thanks

Nice find.

Myself, I'd segment it into 5 pieces including the tip & root them all.

Because my depression can lead me to sometimes neglecting my garden for as long as months at a time with only a few watering.

After lots of trial and error I found that once a cactus gets really skinny it can have a REALLY hard time getting fat and healthy again, particularly the upper parts and pups.

Once a cut is as dehydrated as that I much prefer to plant it side ways now, that way it will have much higher root/plant ratio allowing it to take up the extra water and nutrients that it needs and I also think it may be that the roots are closer to where the water needs to go.

Cuts that I would have previously discarded now get planted horizontally and withing a short period and back to where they were.

I also found that in the first few months of real root growth I like using a smaller clay pot and watering more regularly rather than a larger pot watered less often.

Thanks for helpin' out. Andy, it is too late- I have already cut off the tip, it looks like it is drying up real fast due to the dehydration. It has also been trying to root but I damaged the root when I cut, it was invisible under the skin. I will put it in a pot of perlite in a few days, it is a already the beginning of Autumn here.
