Hyphal Posted May 13, 2013 (edited) First finds south confirmed as of the 9/5/2013. On track for my very rough 'second week of May' rule of thumb... But very thin on the ground on that day, only 5 specimens located. Edit - Subs, that is - not gyms. Edited May 13, 2013 by Hyphal
Mycot Posted June 9, 2013 Great pics and it's (still going) a good year for G.purps finds. What I'm interested in at the moment is G.allantopus. Ha Ha. you heard right. Recent phylogenetic research shows that this species may well be active being closely related to the Validipes clade. If this species is active then several additional closely related Australian species will also be active so if we can confirm activity it'll be a major step in Aust mycology. Results may be posted here or PM me.

Idiot Posted June 16, 2013 Idiot sounds like a troll. I am so sorry that I sound like a troll. You are right as I'm very poor at telling them apart when they are small. No excuses though, when I'm not sure I shouldn't say anything. Their shape and texture changes base on the amount of water they are exposed to

myco Posted July 2, 2013 nice one those purps are showing some pretty strong bruising there i've got some junonius pics i've been meaning to post up whole bunch of huge specimens in large clumps growing out of a stump right at a mates front door
theuserformallyknownasd00d Posted July 2, 2013 Yeh, very clear green/blue all over them. Junonius isn't active over here correct?
myco Posted July 2, 2013 as far as i know junonius is not active however with the amount of inconsistencies in wat little testing has been done on the gymnopolis species i guess you could say it is possible some may be active
mutant Posted July 7, 2013 (edited) There are report finding junonius specimens active in some parts of america but inactive from some others. Probably more study is needed. Look up Stamet too Edited July 7, 2013 by mutant
Idiot Posted August 5, 2013 There are report finding junonius specimens active in some parts of america but inactive from some others. Probably more study is needed. Look up Stamet too They grow everywhere in WA and I found 3 different specimens of it here in Perth. They don't have blue or purple stains so I haven't tested them to see if they are active. I might try.
Idiot Posted August 5, 2013 This year was the best year I ever had in Perth and I found the largest Gym I've ever seen Ladies & Gentlemen ... Gyyyyyyym Ziiiiilllaaaaaa (and a 5c coin):
Foo Posted August 5, 2013 Please do not eat the yellow/orange Gym A's. They are unlikely to kill you, but they would make you pretty sick if you had enough.
Likemyc Posted May 16, 2014 (edited) So any new finds of Gym P this year thus far??? seems like we may have had enough rain in recent days! Edited May 16, 2014 by Likemyc
Cubism Posted May 16, 2014 On shroomery there was a confirmed find earlier this week of G. purps from somewhere in Perth. Went for a look myself at one location with finds reported from previous years but found almost no fungi at all, but there was lots of signs of people having been through before me. Meant to be a bit of rain again this weekend I think so might head out for a look after that.
