TheDudeAbides Posted June 1, 2009 Can i get a spore print from crispy dried out mushrooms?
DreamingNagual Posted June 1, 2009 (edited) I am thinking pretty much No! Caps need to be allowed to dry on the Paper or Foil being used to hold the sporeprint. Once a cap has become dry or crispy it has already been well beyond the process of dropping its spores! Edited June 1, 2009 by DreamingNagual
Zen Peddler Posted June 2, 2009 You can but you need to rehydrate the cap. Ther ewill still be heaps of spores on it, but many may not drop even after rehydration. It does work though.
Mycot Posted June 4, 2009 Very unlikely that you'll get any print from shrooms once dried although there may still be spores on the gill faces. A culture may stiil be started on agar using gill fragments or cloned from other parts of the dried fruitbody.
Zen Peddler Posted June 4, 2009 Thank you for contradicting my response. You can actually get a dried cap to print by rehydrating it with a dropper. Used to commonly done in the old days. print may be light or even clean looking but will still be viable for agar work and much less likely to contaminate seriously enough not to be able to clean up than a gill fragment.
