Cereus ?? ID

Question

I picked this cutting up cheap it was a second chance offer on ebay so no pic was supplied , it was listed as Pachanoi but looks more like Cereus to me ? :scratchhead:

The look & shape seems to lean towards cereus, but the short Pachanoi looking spines are making it even harder to ID with my limited experience, i only have the PC type Pachanoi clone for comparison ?

Yep cereus....you know some vendors on e-bay are completly clueless when it comes to selling cactus...I have sent about half dozen messages to vendors who claim the cactus they are selling are San Pedro when all times they clearly weren't...1 was a Spach, 2 where Scops and the rest where Cereus... each time they wrote me back saying oh no you are wrong..!! we got this cactus from an old timer grower who really knows his stuff so if he says its a San Pedro or Pachanoi it is...I just shake me head....people are buying these and they are falsely identified.

No problems will get send them out after Easter

it looks identical to the image of Trichocereus candicans var. gladiatus ( Argentinien ) from the botanic garden berlin ? >>LINK<<

Like i said i have had a few germinate but planted alot so the germination % was not that great for me but temps have been lower & i did not use a heat mat or artificial light

The Echinocactus grusonii collected the same day have a very high germination % with little to no effort

Hi Bit! There are diffrent versions from Trichocereus Candicans! Please take a look on the plant on my pic and compare! Thats a Candicans! Looks similar, doesnt it? Look at the redish base of the spines, the thickness, etc!

Hi EG, I don't know for sure, but my local nursery tells me that the plant you've pictured is a common mis-label, and is actually a longspinius form of terscheckii, not candicans?

well i finally got a reply about the cereus cutting

Im am sorry you believe that the plant I sent you is not T. pachanoi (& yes the clone i sent is one of the parents on the seed. my other T. pachanoi are not old enough to be flowering yet )

The plant was oreiinally purchased from a CSSQ show as pachanoi & i have no reson to doubt that it is just one on the many clones floating around.

Since you are not happy you are quite welcome to return the plant & seed for a full refund on the purchase price.

i doubt i can convince them but looks like the seeds i have are now a cerus X (??) :BANGHEAD2: oh well ill try to get pics of the parent plants & work out what the seeds are ?

Man that is so typical of vendors responses on e-bay..they always say the same bullshit..to them every columnar is a San Pedro and they always say oh its from such and such a really reliable source..in you're case they have actually finally agreed that you are right and offered a refund...well really they should be doing the right thing in the first place and get correct identification before selling and going through all this nonsense.
