Female of the species is more deadly than the male

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have an autumn mandrake and an officinarum growing closely together .When I looked at them a while ago the Officinarum ( the light green leaf on the right )had begun to grow upwards and towards the autumn mandrake leaf .The autumn mandrake has tried to grow away from it .Please take a look at the attachment .

I thought normally the stronger leaf grows over the lesser leaf blocking its light out and killing it .The officinarum continued to grow but the autumn mandrake always kept the same few millimetres away . The officinarum began to show signs of damage even though it had never touched the other leaf .I eventually moved them apart .The edge of the officinarum leaf has been quite badly damaged by its attempt to make contact .

Is this usual? It may happen all the time but I have never noticed it before

Mel
