  2. Hi I have an autumn mandrake and an officinarum growing closely together .When I looked at them a while ago the Officinarum ( the light green leaf on the right )had begun to grow upwards and towards the autumn mandrake leaf .The autumn mandrake has tried to grow away from it .Please take a look at the attachment . I thought normally the stronger leaf grows over the lesser leaf blocking its light out and killing it .The officinarum continued to grow but the autumn mandrake always kept the same few millimetres away . The officinarum began to show signs of damage even though it had never touched the other leaf .I eventually moved them apart .The edge of the officinarum leaf has been quite badly damaged by its attempt to make contact . Is this usual? It may happen all the time but I have never noticed it before Mel

    Mutant mandrake from hell

Thanks for your replies excelent ideas Both plants are kept in pots filled with peat, the environment is in a green house so that is constantly controlled . They are kept within four or five feet of each other. Both are a similar age .The leaves on the mutant plant from hell look in good condition .Even the new leaves are crumpled looking .No apparent insect activity , but i will nuke em anyway The seeds were from ebay not from a seed merchant .The seeds could be a hybrid ,I thought all the different varieties needed to be flowering at the same time ,it is something i know very little about .I like the idea of it though .Something from the film little shop of horrors would be nice.I know that other varieties do have grumpled leave but they are very rare The only difference i can think of is that i sacrificed a couple of virgin serving wenches from my mansion on the hill to the mutant one ha ha I have tried to upload the pics, I managed to do one but the other mutant one refused to be shown I will try again shortly god knows where they are on this site because i have lost them How would i find out if it was a hybrid Regards Mel

    Mandragora mandrake classification help

Thanks for your reply sina it is what I thought I just wanted to confirm it . Also these names appear after the plant names .Linnaeus. and Bertolini are these the first to have identified the plant Regards Mel
  10. Hi everyone I would like some help in understanding this classification .I have trawled the internet for information and they all seemed as confused as me I thought I knew what I was talking about but as usual I didn’t I copied this from the mystic mandrake, the author was C J S Thompson curator of the royal college of surgeon’s .So in theory he should know what he is talking about .To me the description is unclear The mandrake or rather the correct botanical name of Mandragora officinarum Linn (variety vernalis Bertolini).is of the order solanacae, which includes several poisonous plants such as the deadly nightshade The Linnaean plant is distinguished as by the name of officinarum only .The true mandrake is therefore Mandragora officinarum of Linnaeus and the Mandragora Vernalis of Bertolini . Then he goes on to talk separately about Autumnalis Is he saying that Mandragora officinarum Linnaeus. and Mandragora vernalis of Bertolini are the same plant .The spring flowering mandrake . Any help would be much appreciated Kind Regards Mel
