Trichocereus scopulicola. Very nice - and is mildly active (reported to be a little less than the common T. pachanoi). There is a fair bit of info in the main cacti subforum if you search for the species name :)

What made you suspect kk339?

Trichocereus scopulicola.

You sure it's scop? I would've said pach.

I reckon T. pach too.

Though there is a scoppish element in there I would lean more towards pach.

Yeah, it kind of has scop like notches, but apart from that it looks pach.

If you have a hand lense Hunab check out the epidermis. If it's pach it will be very smooth and waxy if it's scop it will be a little rough/bumpy.

Also feel it. Scop has a rougher texture. That is a good indicator.

Hmmm interesting the reason I thought it was pach was I searched thru the old id forums and found one that looked similar..with little or no spines..Ive had it about 5 yrs and got it when it was about 10cm tall. If someone was come along and chop off say the top 20cm what would happen to this plant, do they heal and throw new growth out the sides..

just wonderin how these things grow is all..yes yes I'm lazy I could trawl through the old forums but I've been on this site for the last 48hrs constantly reading and Im gettin a migrane..

anyone have anything for that LOL

cheers thanks peoples.

Hunab.

I'd say scop as due to the sunken areoles..(notches)

kk339 is a specific type of pachanoi (more accurately it is a designation of a collection area, but generally refers to a specific strain of pachanoi). kk339s actually have longer spines than yours. Yours looks pretty similar to the backeberg clone.

I don't want to encourage you to ask questions that are easy to find info on, but I'll answer this one because you are new here and clearly eager, if you are 'lazy' again and ask something that is not hard to find info on, I will not answer. If you chop the top off, it will callous over, and eventually 'pups' will come out of areoles near the top. After the bit you cut off has calloused too, you can plant that in dry soil and wait a couple/few weeks before you start watering it.

looks like a malnourished pach to me, with a fairly bad case of scale.

& that bryophyllum in the background be destroyed!

As of 10 secs ago the bryophyllum has gone to cactus heaven ..bless his weedy soul.

My garden is going thru a big transformation and %90 of plant material is being removed as we speak.

One whole side will be dedicated to entheogen cactus

The other side to entheogen trees and vines.

I hope to update the pics weekly and show this site the progress.

peace..over and out

Hunab.
