Suspicious Cebil

Question

I got an interesting one. A generous guy I met got some suspicious looking seeds marked as Anadenanthera colubrina 'Cebil' and he passed some on to me. I say suspicious because they do not look like Anadenanthera spp. seed, but more like Mimosa spp.

The seed coat is smooth and glossy, the dark brown seeds are ovoid to round, 2mm to 4mm wide and 3mm to 4mm long, and they have a pronounced well defined bump starting at the eye and going ~2/3 the way up the seed.

Anyone know what they might be?

looks like Mimosa Hostilis or verrucosa. (i would say Hostilis)...but i'm no Mimosa specialist it could be M.Pudica too... :scratchhead:

Most defiantly not verrucosa or pudica. I suspected tenuiflora too and had to compare it with tenuiflora seed from my seed bank to 80% rule that out, still could be a different variety tho. I also compared it to M. scabrella seed I have and its less like them than it is like tenuiflora.

I figure the best chance at IDing them from seed or seedling pics is if someone knows which mimosoids are being sold as A. c. 'Cebil'

Here [1] you can see my reference probable hostilis and probable verrucosa seed. These suspicious cebils are similar to the hostilis but smaller, lighter, rounder, and with a more precisely defined central bump. My pudica reference, after stripping off the papery seed pod, looks a lot like the verrucosa.

Barring sage wisdom from Torsten it sounds like my best bet for IDing them wont come until I grow them.

Time to pop these puppies in the ground :)
