herbologist Posted March 28, 2008 A mate found this and asked me if I wanted a cutting . I think its a Cereus of some sort, would be cool if I'm wrong. Thanks all
0 gilligan Posted March 28, 2008 Looks like a cereus to me, the really pale blueish kind... I really should put a pic of mine up, it's a reasonable greenish, long spined cereus, different to a lot of the ones i've seen, spines are like an inch long... 0 herbologist Posted March 28, 2008 (edited) Thanks gilligan, might get him to get me some, just to bulk out my small collection. There's nothing 'special' bout this one is there? Edited March 28, 2008 by salem13

0 herbologist Posted March 28, 2008 (edited) True that!! Will a mid cut grow? Just wondering cause if he just brings back one long bit it would be cool to take a bit off the bottom and have a couple. Edited March 28, 2008 by salem13
0 herbologist Posted March 28, 2008 I've got a few cheap button cacti, maybe I could practice grafting?
0 gilligan Posted March 28, 2008 Midcuts will grow fine, but cereus are not a good cactus to graft with... not juicy, vascular rings too small (from what i discern). For grafting, esp buttons, easiest way i've found it the pedro, then a scop or bridgesii. Have seen hylocereus (dragonfruit) been used, but none of mine have ever taken... My pedro grafts are going great guns. Cereus peruvianus (peruvian apple) are good for their fruit, which is edible (and reasonably tasty)... if you like that kinda thing
