reshroomED Posted February 1, 2008 (edited) Just grabbed a couple of large fruit from a spach. First seven replies will get 1/4 fruit each (plenty of seeds). cheers ed edit: Best I mention that I don't know what has pollinated these. I'm beginning to think that I have more than one variety of spach, as this has happened the last few years and none of my other cactii were flowering at the same time. Either that, or someone nearby has one that I'm unaware of. The bees have been going crazy on them, so it's not that unlikely. edit again: if you've short-changed me on a trade, or owe me money, please don't bother asking. Sorry to be rude, but FFS. reshroomED Posted February 11, 2008 Slight delay with the seeds. Just went to pack them to send tomorrow and they'd (the fruit) begun to rot. I seemed to remember Rev mentioning seperating seeds by washing/filtration so gave it a go and now have the seeds drying. Will send later this week/early next. ed

Conan Troutman Posted March 14, 2008 any particular reason for growing spach from seed? most people could obtain mature stock by the metre(s) with a lil looking n prolly free(who can wait 3-4 years for a decent plant) nothing against Ed...much love as always bro ;)
ballzac Posted March 14, 2008 I figured it's a nice hobby...growing from seed.
gilligan Posted March 14, 2008 I figured it's a nice hobby...growing from seed. I have to agree, ballzac... It's mainly something out of interest... you can either keep the same clones going on and on, or allow the possiblity of a funky new strain... I like the thought of finding some amazingly different mutation to clone... It's the thought of that that makes me want to wait the 3 - 4 years. All i have to do is keep an eye on them once in a while, and they can sit in the background... I enjoy it, and if i dont find anything amazing, well, then i don't need to go looking for spach by the metre... i'll already have it then. And when i sit back in 5 years time looking at my forest of lophs, i'll think "i did all this myself, from seed" and tell the wife she's wrong. I DO have patience
Conan Troutman Posted March 14, 2008 Yeh but spach? maybe the energy should be into more rare and less abundant spp
reshroomED Posted March 14, 2008 (edited) I'm basically with CT in regards to cactii, only buy cuttings. Especially spach, shit I often give-away 1'-plus cuttings in the "Free Stuff Thread". Not that growing from seed isn't as good, just that I'm too lazy. FWIW, I've another dozen-odd fruit on the plants at the moment, so anyone who would like some need only pm me with a name and address. And feel free to make up a reasonable sounding name if this worries you, but I won't send to "I-eat-cactus-to-trip-balls" @ xxxxxxx st, etc, etc. ed Edited March 14, 2008 by reshroomED
