KanJe Posted September 19, 2007 Are they the only Astrophytum you have Pisgah? If they are, you are lucky to have them... That Onzuka is beautiful...
Pisgah Posted September 19, 2007 Those are the only ones on their own roots, aside from a straight species asterias. I have a few on pereskiopsis though. I need to get more going, though. There seem to be many Japanese cultivars that I cannot find in mature plant form. Seed order time!
tonic Posted September 20, 2007 F**KKKK!!!!!! Looks like I am losing one of my Astrophytum asterias var. nudum to orange rot!!!! Not happy......
KanJe Posted September 20, 2007 I feel your pain PD... Every one of my myriostigma seem to attract scale and when it rained last my biggest on happened to be just in line with a hole in my gutter which is riddled with rust... That poor myriostigma has been orange for week and Im not sure whether its gonna give it rust...
Pisgah Posted September 25, 2007 These are a couple from Koehres seed, but shit if I lost the tags to know which one it is. I think it may be the the 'Supar UFO' but I'm not sure. The second one was a flat graft that pupped well below any areole!

tonic Posted October 7, 2007 My guess ornatum myrostigma mix.... That's what I was thinking. Looks pretty cool, would like to see a pic of the nudum type if you have a pic.
Peyofox Posted October 7, 2007 Really cool dude, what the very bottom right one called? if ya know? Thanks Mark, PD is correct in his description. Here is another in flower...
mark80 Posted October 7, 2007 post 8, first pic top right hand corner. The fact there is a nudum and "flocked" makes me think there is myrostigma in tehre some where
Conan Troutman Posted October 13, 2007 (edited) Hello Astrophytes, Picked this one up awhile ago, had pretty much no roots and a nice big oozing infection...cut back 5/6th of the plant to save it, so had little choice but to graft. Now, after a couple of weeks and despite my incompetence its seems to be growing along quite steady...all I need now is an ID lack of speckling lead me to make my first guess as A. orantum var quadricosta but as the ribs are just coming back from the thinning effects of dehydration, bluntly put... farked if I know what it is. Any help, Thanks dudes... Edited October 13, 2007 by Conan Troutman
mark80 Posted October 13, 2007 hey great graft! Umm my guess is it not an astrophytum the spination arreoles suggest something different. I am quite sure its not an ornatum, couold be an odd looking capricorne but i am surpirsed if it is an astro at all:) cool anywya

It certainly is badly dehydrated and I dont think Ive seen an astro with a plain epidermis either...Ill wait til the ribs fatten up, should be a couple of weeks

tonic Posted October 13, 2007 I'm going with Cereus peruvianus 'Spiralis', doesn't really look like a an Astrophytum to me, the spination is all wrong. What made you think it was an Astro CT? Looks pretty interesting.

tonic Posted October 13, 2007 If it is a Cereus peruvianus 'Spiralis' [not %100 on that] it's actually quite an interesting and reasonably valuable cactus. I have never come across one yet.
Conan Troutman Posted October 13, 2007 Okies had a look at some more 'spiralis' pics, to me the spinantion seems off...mine has 4-5 spines from each aerole black and pointing away from the body and it didnt seem to have any over the strong spiraling asseen in other plants but that also look like a trait plants dont start to do develop till there are quite mature..once again its time to play the ole waiting game anymore comments would be appreciated

After consulting a good mate I would say its pretty hard to tell the ID at this point but that only makes me more eager to see what it is. I dont think its Cereus Peruvianus v. Spiralis though because I think the aereols would be closer together in the ribs, but if is I would be pretty excited as I have wanted to get a cutting of it for ages. Be sure to keep us updated with images after some growth and when it has fattened up a bit... Edited October 15, 2007 by KanJe
