0 gerbil Posted November 27, 2006 (edited) It looks similar to a cut from a massive plant around the Northern Melb suburbs (I think around Preston-ish area); it's hard to tell from the large columns; but the new growth looks familiar even though that's not a great indicator. Did Yowie find this in Melbourne? ah shit just lost the post :/ Edit: This is the old dudes cactus, photos by philistine The nobbly nature seems to come and go and it does a bit of shapeshifting. This is new growth from philistines original cut A more mature pup, the secondary yellow spines have only begun to emerge in the last couple of weeks May not be of any help, but it kind of looks similar. 0 ferret Posted December 1, 2006 thanks fezza, you're a champ; good to see he's getting to know a few folk Love his macrogonus too. yeh hes a top fella, i live just around the corner from his joint. he insisted on gettin up a ladder to saw off a nice big cut for me on a scorcher last summer, teetering over the edge of his hedge working up a sweat.. theres a pedro in that jungle somewhere too.. 0 _e_ Posted December 1, 2006 I would concur with Ferret, and say that the plant in question is of 'true peruvianus' bent. The plants seen in PD's post, and Tripitakas post, are almost certainly the same.. Notice the downfacing spination, with two prominent spines per aereol. 0 M S Smith Posted May 5, 2007 Passive and Tripitaka, both your plants look like your standard T. pachanoi sorts from Peru. I swear that so-called "T. pachanoi, Backeberg clone" plant has had everyone so confused for decades as to what T. pachanoi is really like. Here's a few shots I found of T. pachanoi as represented in Peru. At the Nook there is a long thread that just came back up showing many more photos. ~Michael~
