    Shamanic vine?

FAMILY: Malpghiaceae GENUS: Tetrapterys SPECIES: Methystica COMMON NAMES: Caapi-pinima Tetrapterys methystica is a scandent bush. It has a trunk with black bark, ashy-yellow branches with internodes at 4-10cm long, branchlets terete, lightly canaliculate, 0.8-3.3mm in diameter. The leaves are chartaceous, ovate, long acuminate, mostly basally rounded, margin entire but slightly revolute. The upper surface of the leaves are bright green, and the under surface is an ashy green. Inflorescences are pseudocorymbose, with 4-5 flowers a-piece, much shorter than the leaves. The fruit, or samara, is ovoid with brownish wings. Tetrapterys methystica is found primarily in the Rio Vaupes Basin, near the border between Columbia and Brazil. TRADITIONAL USES: The Maku people of the Rio Tikie of the Brazilian Amazon prepare a cold-water infusion of T. methystica bark to prepare a strongly hallucinogenic brew. There is no other plant ingredient. The drink is very bitter and has an unusual yellow hue. This may be the ” second kind” of caapi mentioned by several explorers as caapi-pinima, meaning “painted caapi.” The use of the plant was first described in 1954 by Richard Schultes. T. methystica is used by several different groups of indigenous peoples of the region to prepare ayahuasca. It is also decocted by the Makuna people and used as a febrifuge. The peoples of the Rio Piraparana area boil the bark along with Strychnos erichsonii bark for 4-5 hours to produce a weak dart poison. Finally, other species of the plant are used to treat infections and illnesses. TRADITIONAL EFFECTS: Although T. methystica produces effects identical with those of Banisteriopsis caapi, we still know nothing of its chemistry. However, it is closely related to Banisteriopsis and there is every probability that similar or identical alkaloids , including beta-carboline, are present. 2. I just saw this buzz powder on herbalistics. it's powdered kanna mixed with justicia. Why's that added? Is that for the taste? I thought justicia might be activated through maoi in ayahuasca/changa (also just for taste), but .that this would only be a theory So ... I went to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia....icia_pectoralis And I read this: Traditional uses Across its range it is used in folk medicine as a relaxant and general tonic.[citation needed] Extracts Scientific study indicates that extracts of J. pectoralis as well as the isolated chemical constituents coumarin and umbelliferone possess anti-inflammatory and relaxant effects in animal models.[1][2] Other uses As regards other applications, it is noted for its pleasant smell and as a source of coumarin, which it produces in plenty, and which in combination with umbelliferone is responsible for many of its notable properties. It is also admixed to epená (Virola) snuff to make it smell more pleasant. In particular var. stenophylla might also be hallucinogenic in certain preparations; it is known to wajacas (shamans) of the Craós (Krahós, Krahô) tribe in Brazil, who know that variety as mashi-hiri and consider it a potent entheogen, not to be taken by the uninitiated.[2][3] But the most interesting part was this: Etymology The name "tilo" could be by association with Tilia, the linden trees. These are entirely unrelated eudicots whose flowers have similar relaxant properties. The water-"willows" are not relatives of the true willows either; like the lindens, the latter belong to the rosid branch of the eudicots. I read once in Rätsch' encyclopedia that there's a mexican linden called Tilia mexicana and probably in reality followed by var. ... well ... dunno. well that one should have good relaxing properties, diazepam alike and would differ from the European variety. I have searched for plant material, but haven't found so far. PS: why does torsten have a bday on sab and not on FB?

    europe trip. recommendations...warnings?

Yeah, avoid UK, I don't care about London. I also have heard good things about Berlin, many underground music genres are played for bigger crowds there in clubs. Slovenia is reaaaaaaaaaaaally nice, I also had a vacation girlfriend there . I hitch-hiked there when I was 18, people are very friendly and you can easily camp in their gardens or sleep in a garage and they will give you food. Barcelona is just magical . Especially after reading the shadow of the wind from Carlos Ruiz Zafon.

Is a 250 Watt Light Fine for Caapi and Viridis?

I wouldn't wanna spend my money on it, to be honest. I thiink as long os you can keep them inside with your heat on there shouldn't any problem. They also don't require a lot of light. Remeber that the amazon is pretty dark under the treetops. Humidity and warmth.

Is a 250 Watt Light Fine for Caapi and Viridis?

Caapi is another story, though ... although I think it doesn't die cos of the winter outside .. Just keep your house warm enough. I think there are aother conditions that are neede to keep it happy.

Is a 250 Watt Light Fine for Caapi and Viridis?

How cold does it get there? (celcius please) Psychotria viridis is very strong and doesn't mind shade and harsh winters (last winter was minus 20 here). I just have it in the house.

    europe trip. recommendations...warnings?

Hey, Europe is fantastic and although the old classics like Rome, Paris, Barcelona ... won't bore, it could be nice to do an alternative route. I suggest: go Copenhagen and visit Christiania, an anarchist freestate with an open air weed market. It's expensive though, but it's worth it. Last time I was there the percentage of girls in a club was like 70%. You don't see that a lot. After that you could find your way to Norway, the most beautiful country I've ever seen, a lot of wildlife too. Very expensive, BUT you can wildcamp anywhere, so if you have a tent and cook yourself you save money you'd otherwhise be spending in youth hostels. In the summer there are a lot of tourist with RV's going from one destination to another. You could hitch hike from one point of interest to another and put up a camp. Or you could take buses and trains. But if you're with six persons ... hitch hiking won' tbe possible. Oktoberfest sounds very boring: mass events with beer, I'll pass. Haven't been there but the following cities are on my to do list and look fantastic: Prague , Vienna and Talinn (Estonia). Talinn has a huuuuge historical centre, looks like a fucking huge castle from far cos of the big city walls. Vienna is a bit expensive to get in, but you can take a plane to Bratislava, which is one of the cheapest fly destinations. There is a 9 euro bus to Vienna, afterwards you could take a train to Boekarest, which is also very close and have again a cheaper plane or bus. Beautiful nature and cheapness is to be found in: Albania, Slovenia, Montenegro, Croatia ... All Balkan with other words. Albania is very beautiful and has very hostile people. Video of Albania: You can go to all countries which are broke right now: Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Ireland and Iceland. They are cheaper now and you'd help local economy. Iceland is very expensive, but I've heard it's better now. You can easily hitch hike. I once picked up a very beautiful Swedish girl in the middle of a stone desert, wtf. The girls are very wild there and easily will wanna party. Oh, you have a gf, i forgot. (they also are in Spain and Czech Republic btw) Krakow (Poland) is very cool and cheap and has a lot of nightlife, also some beautiful girls. www.eurolines.com => cheap buses, I use them. No promotions during high season though. www.ryanair.com => you could just fly depending on the promotions, low cost company. You can rent a car through hertz, afilliation program with them, you can already have a car at 7 euro a day in Spain and 20 euro a day in Italy. that's nothing divided by six persons. www.wizzair.com flies to Prague and other E-european destinations, low budget airline. www.jetairfly.com is another low budget one. www.couchsurfing.com lets you find people who offer a free place to crash. You'de have to divide your group, though. Europe is easy to hitch hike. Be sure to always see if you have reduction as student or because you're under 26. Drug laws are the most tolerant in Portugal, Spain, Czech Republic. Be careful in Germany, France, UK, Italy, Poland and Scandinavia

    Cactus Country, Strathmerton, VIC

Hey, Evil Genius, I heard there's a fucking huge garden with very very old trichocereus somewhere in Barcelona, lot's of varieties, probably very unique seeds/pollen to be collected. It's private property, but it's abandoned and you need to climb over a fence. I got to know this through an Australian. I'll ask directions .

The end of fish, in one chart

My wife and me barely ever eat fish anymore because of this. Let's say once every two months we eat tiger shrimps.
  18. Hey, No one wants to help her in her university ... just like that. I'm a teacher and my speciality is foreign languages .... math ... don't even know where to begin.
  19. Hello, I'"m desperately searching for someone who can help out my wife . Sorry for the vague explanation, but I never had statistics and it has been years since my wife had it. She's writing the protocol for her master thesis (fysical therapy) and she's gonna do a questionnaire with two groups and she needs to calculate a sample size. What's she's gonna do is a paired t-test and has to know how much persons are needed and the calculation for this. I don't how the fucking you can do this without having any data yet??? Necessary software: PS POWER AND SIMPLE SIZE PROGRAM Link: http://biostat.mc.vanderbilt.edu/wiki/Main/PowerSampleSize She says that she knows the following values already: Power: 0,8 en alpha: 0,05, the rest no clue. (you might wanna doubt this ...) Few pdf's ... http://www.2shared.com/document/F6n41Can/HRQOL_randomized_trial_hypofra.html http://www.2shared.com/document/5kYV5zoE/Kirkwood_PoweraSampleSize.html http://www.2shared.com/document/qvxhltKY/Portney_PoweraSampleSize.html I posted this here cos' there are a lot of smart cookies here and I really hope that someone can help us out cos her deadline is in like two days. THANKS A BILLION. We'll be forever grateful.

    Smoking mixes

I find dagga flowers hard to burn/smoke away. Jurema bark? Why, that wouldn't do much if it's not an extract. Syrian rue, hmzz, sounds harsh for the throat. Could someone tell me the effects of smoked brugmansia and also the taste of that? I have some toé cigars from Peru.

    Smoking mixes

Why not, as long as there aren't any substances in it that could be harmful ... That has actually been a concern, you know. I use acacia blossoms (dried though), having no clue what species it is and if it can be harmful or not. Same for vanilla and chocolate. I also have used green tea already. Kinda stupid if you know that I'm using this as a tobacco alternative, healthier and all that. It would be really nice if someone has some refs on the smoking of certain herbs and consequences.
