  1. I bought all this of a couple who just purchased a house and didnt like cactus :-)
  2. From the album: MeanGreen's Ethnobotanical Garden

My opuntias are bursting with flowers (counted over 50 buds!) and the bees are loving it :)
  3. From the album: MeanGreen's Ethnobotanical Garden

It's that time again for one of my favorite fruits! Picked these up at the market, they came from italy.
  4. From the album: MeanGreen's Ethnobotanical Garden

Rumoured to be active, erowid says it contains up to 0.9% mescaline. Collected in Portugal.
  5. Just though I'd share this for the WA members if you haven't seen it. Opuntioid cacti (Opuntia species, Cylindropuntia species and Austrocylindropuntia species except C. californica) are declared pests in Western Australia https://www.agric.wa.gov.au/declared-plants/opuntioid-cacti-declared-pests
  6. I did these Loph grafts 7 days ago and now it's time to peel off the cling wrap and see how they look. I stole the technique from DRCEVNL (Ruud Tropper) who has posted a series of vids on youtube. I've plugged it a few times before & the vid with the method I used for these grafts is called - Next generation grafting Next Generation grafting As in the video I made no attempt to align or overlap vascular bundles/tissue. I basically just cut the scion and stock and shoved them together & moved them around a bit to expel any air bubbles. They seem to have stuck, which is no guarantee of anything with a graft using an Opuntia as stock. I've done them with larger Opuntias in the past and the scions have held on for months and slowly withered away. I even took pictures and applied software filters to define the vascular "ring" that runs almost parallel to the surface of Opuntias and took extra care to ensure vascular overlap with the scions but they failed anyway. When I get the urge I'll update this thread and we'll see how well it turned out.
  7. One of my mates is getting rid of a large portion of their ornamental cacti collection, many trichocereus sp. and a few others. For local pickup, cacti come with their pots and soil. For interstate, cacti will be sent bare rooted without pots or soil and postage is unfortunately not available to Tasmania due to quarantine. [Edit: all sold]
  8. Today I planted a few T.peruvianus in a spot that's been used as short cut by any bastard that is too lazy to walk around. I've planted them in a somewhat strategic location with a big enough gap for an adult (sober) to fit through. I've deliberately left the human sized gap as I intend to plant a nice looking little Opuntia between them. The idea at the heart of this twisted scheme goes something like this. The trespasser walks through the yard and spots a gap between two "spikey" looking cactus or (cactuses to them) with one small groin high innocuous looking thing between them that has cute looking "tufts" of something on it and thinks - well I'm already here and I don't want to walk the extra 10 metres to go around, I'll just step over that cute little thing. <___base_url___>/uploads/emoticons/default_ohmy.png The nice looking little Opuntia has very dense clusters of glochids and was estimated by the person I bought it from to have about 1000 glochids per tuft (areole) Fuck em if they can't take joke <___base_url___>/uploads/emoticons/default_devil.gif
