  1. Neurogenesis is quite a restrictive term in one sense. As it stands we don't have much proof that it can effect much of a change by the generation of new brain cells (presumably from pluripotent stem cells) but is that the end of the discussion ? For example if I read a book that blows my (tiny) mind and it creates a bridge between my understanding of electronics and physics and in turn reveals a new paradigm that I never could have previously even contemplated, doesn't that increase the neural connections and build new neural networks in my brain that didn't exist prior to reading the book ? It wouldn't be neurogenesis in the pure definition but it is still loosely classed as a form of neural adaptation where more networks are active than were previously. Maybe it won't generate any measurable change in regards to cell count but a positive change has taken place none the less. From what I understand it's hard to downplay the role of the hippocampus as it's like a control centre of sorts and regulates many functions in the brain. A few small changes in the hippocampus could have a dramatic effect on the overall function of the brain. Don't get me wrong Cubism, I like to see evidence before I'll believe in that sort of thing myself, I'm not sold either way. I do think research into the brain is still is in its infancy in some respects though, so even though we believe something is not possible now doesn't mean it will never be proven to be possible. Just look at Wim Hof. He demonstrated that he could exert conscious control over his immune system and other physiological processes that modern science had previously proven to be impossible. Is neurogenesis probable ? Most likely no Is it possible ? Maybe, Who really knows
  2. I don't know how you'd prove it in vivo but nano coated curcumin seems to show some promise in rats cell lines in vitro. I have to admit I've read the abstract though, so it could be a bit of blinged up BS to keep the funding flowing. http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/nn405077y

Cheers mate I misinterpreted that, I was expecting it to be one or the other, not either depending on the conditions.

I'm just trying to fully understand what Fenris has posted. My interest in mostly from a dietary point of view in regards to Intermittent Fasting. I'm a bit rusty on energy pathways & Kreb/citric acid cycles etc The post above mentions both Hypoglycemia and later on mentions Hyperglycemia. Would I be correct to assume that Hypoglycemia is the implied term in both instances ? If I'm reading it correctly and glucogenisis is inhibited would that result in electrons not being available to the mitochondria through the glycolytic pathways for energy production? I regularly go on a 24 hour fast but I drink vodka until about midnight, my last meal being at about 6pm. I was thinking that the source or calories from the alcohol would delay the onset of the fast (and insulin levels falling) until the alcohol had worn off. After reading what Fenris posted maybe the vodka wouldn't matter so much.

    501 garden post

Fucken lurkers ! The first time I met Horus he had a picture of a skull as his avatar. He contacted me & asked me if I wanted to come and check out his garden. I thought to myself, he's some random guy on the Internet who doesn't post here much and collects human skulls, what could possibly go wrong ? Anyway I made the trek down there and not long after I got there he showed me some of his collection of Tibetan skulls. He had one in each hand and was explaining their heritage and who they were when they were alive. Then he lost his grip for a split second and fumbled both the skulls and as he did one of the skull caps flew into the air and did a triple back flip with a one and a half twist. So as it was happening it was like time slowed down & I thought to myself If that thing lands on this tiled floor it will probably shatter into a thousand pieces and I'll be permanently etched into Horus's memory as the guy that was looking at this precious artefact when it happened..., that's not going to kick the relationship on the right foot, I better catch it. So I stuck my hands out and caught it. Horus looked at me like he'd just watched the family jewels get stolen and then returned instantly , breathed a deep sigh of relief and said. That's a good omen I'd say. We've been mates ever since, even though we only ever see each other once in 3 blue moons. All the best Horus & sorry I missed this years camp.

There's nothing wrong with gastrolyte CrayZ, it's probably even preferable to straight salt in some respects. As long as you get enough sodium in your system to initiate the anti diuretic effect and stop your cells giving up too much water. One tablet might be enough for some people, bigger people might need two.

That bottle was a 1.125 l bottle and there's about 200 ml left. So I drank about 900ml of extra strength Vodka and I slept like a baby, didn't wake up for piss and have no hangover today.

So it looks like the old cunt piked it again. There's only about 200ml of Vodka left and no Santa. Oh well, Wolfgang can serenade me into the last chang before bed like he does most nights. .

Good idea Anodyne. It would be a lot easier to update and make corrections etc that way. Teo could kick it all off with the mother of all lists.

Most of those electrolyte solutions are salt, bi-carb and glucose sometimes with a bit of citric acid or something to balance the ph . They work, but for what they are they a bit of a rip off, convenient though. I actually started using half a teaspoon of bi-carb before bed and that worked fine too. The idea at the time wasn't to prevent a hangover just an attempt to avoid the cycle of waking up for a piss every few hours. I was just looking for an easy way to get an anti-diuretic effect & sodium seemed like a cheap easy solution. Then I started mixing Himalayan salt in 50:50 with the bi-carb and in the end I just thought fuck it, I'll just use salt. I drink my vodka with a half a lemon squeezed into each glass, so I stay well hydrated and don't need to go to bed with water any more. I sleep through the night just like I would if I haven't drunk any alcohol now that I drink a sodium solution before bed. The lemon gives me a good shot of vitamins and a few trace minerals with each glass, so it's almost a health drink.

    Pests pests pests hate pests!

Are they random spots all over the fruit or just at the end where the flower was ? If they are all over the fruit it will most likely be fruit fly, if it's where the flower was it is blossom end rot.

Xmas Cheer Straight From the Mouth of Wodak

I haven't been without a drink for 6 months or more. I was drinking 2 bottles or more of vino every night for a quite a while. I've cut down to half a bottle of vodka every night and I feel heaps better for it. I know it's not healthy but I reckon I'd be heaps worse if I let them keep upping the dose for the oxy's they were giving me for my back pain. I'm just hoping 3D bioprinted livers hit the shelves before mine packs it in.

Yeah, but it's too bad that capitalism trumps common sense. I've been hearing reports of bottle shops being allowed to extend trading hours and lockout laws that were having a dramatic impact on violence and alcohol related injuries/hospital admittances being relaxed as well. From big brothers' perspective there's just too many fools waiting to be separated from their money to put any controls on the liquor supply, especially at this time of year. Governments are addicted to the tax revenue from sales and any casualties seem to be OK for them as long as the money keeps rolling in.

    The Random Thread.

Why is it the girl in the sandwich shop has to wear gloves when she makes a sanga but all the chefs on TV are allowed to handle each individual piece of food with their bare hands ? They may as well be shoving their fingers in the customers mouths.
  22. Inclined wirtz coils are another possibility too, you don't need the rotary adaptor that way so there's less moving parts to wear out. Something like this could be adaptaed with a paddle wheel attached to a universal joint etc http://lurkertech.com/water/pump/tailer/fig19.jpg
  23. The spiral pump is a good idea, I think it would need some type of gearing if it was to be used in conjunction with a generator. The dynamics of the water generator require relative high speed because of low torque production in or order to generate a reasonable current and the spiral pump can operate at almost any speed. I'd suggest they would regulate their own speed and that would not be in linear slope in relation to each other, so gearing them together would be quite difficult. I'd suggest the two devices would be better to be self standing separate machines so they can do their own thing and not interfere with load dynamics of the other device.
  24. I see you have a stream that looks to have a good volume of water and a good flow rate. There's a few yourube vids on using a fisher paykel washing machine as water powered generator. You have to re-wire the stator and make a few other mods but they are a great way to make free energy from a creek. This website has a good rundown on how its done & lots of other green power projects http://www.yourgreendream.com/diy_fisher_paykel.php
