  1. in my opinion pink like that generally is a variegate trait my lil variegated Astrophytum is looking really really pink at the moment
  2. really thats strange i had a few of them unfortunately im down to 1 now i lost 2 to rot when i went away over winter i was not very happy about that but i still have one left here and a bunch of seedlings no flowers this year but last year they all flowered and i got seed out of all of them and i never attempted to pollinate any of them some bug must have come along and done the job for me i just assumed they were self fertile as they all produced seed without me even touching them i probly should check the database and see what it actually says about them

    Indoor small setup for cacti

yeh its nothin fancy but it does the job allows me to germinate and graft seedlings all year round that's all i really wanted just starting to keep a nice steady flow of seedlings and grafts comin out of it now i got kinda lucky got the heat pad and smaller top light second hand from blownG when he moved back to NZ cant remember how much but very cheap was given one of the stands by a friend and found another one at the dump so i just stacked em on top of each other and the light on the bottom i scored off eBay for $70 came with 4 tubes to and as i said earlier i scrounged the reflective insulation out of the bin of a work site down the road

    Indoor small setup for cacti

this is my little setup i just used 2 of those little shelve setups with the plastic covering you find at bunnings to make this haha Bottom shelf with heatpad normally this whole thing is just for cacti seedlings but at the moment I'm germinating a whole bunch of boabs under there Top shelf gets warmth from the light underneath as you can see i use one of those little seedling humidity chambers from bunnings for fresh seedling grafts to go in i have one of the trays with the holes in the bottom inside one of the trays wich hold water this lets me fill the bottom with water without it coming up to the bottoms of the pots the water sitting in the bottom along with the warmth from the light underneath keeps it nice and humid inside once the grafts are ready to come out of the humidity they go to the left side where its open

    Indoor small setup for cacti

i know thats not a strong light but i would recommend lifting it higher so its not so close your plants i have a small setup inside which i use to allow me to grow seedlings and also graft all year round i have a heat pad on the bottom with a light above i use this for germinating all my seedlings then above that i have another shelf with another light at the top this is where all my grafts go the light underneath generates a small amount of heat for the grafts above i also have that silver bubble wrap type insulation around the sides and back to help reflect light a bit more i was able to scrounge quite a bit of it out of the bin of a building site that was nearby i'll post some pics up in the morning

Help ID garden shroom, Cubensis -Variety?

theres probly no way of telling what cubensis it actually is without proper microscopic identification i have never seen either of the strains you mentioned in person either so i wouldnt even make a guess to be honest definitely cubensis though bottom of the stem in the first pic looks a little odd but the second and third pic are a dead giveaway bruising is evident on the cap in the last pic to

does anyone in W.A. have euphorbia obesa ? I've seen a few come up on CC's but they say they cant send them to W.A. i assume its because of their weed status not that i can see them growing like a weed here

    Purple Cacti

I'm goin with PD here they look like they need a good drink to me Might be a good idea to give em a good soak with some soil conditioner seasol or something similar will help them retain moisture for a bit longer seedlings this size can drink alot of water

strange booms in the south west of W.A.

well as you should know being from down this way upside we do have some of the worlds largest trees and when one of those big bastards comes down it would without a doubt make more than a thud when it hits the ground still the tree thing is just another theory i was sent a link last night which is kinda scary http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message2457643/pg1

strange booms in the south west of W.A.

thanks BT I'm now scared my whole property will be swallowed by a giant sink hole hahaha It's definately a similar sound I just can't see it being so loud it's seriously like one of them going off in the backyardAnd one of those surely wouldn't shake the whole house The other thought I had recently is they've done alot of burning off just outside of town There's alot of HUGE old growth in there alot of big old karris with huge branches wich are well known to just randomly drop off I'm beginning to think maybe it's trees coming down after all the burning would also explain the very random times it's happening and the feeling like its coming from the ground to the point of it shaking the house Aswell the fact that sometimes its alot louder than other times bigger tree louder noise And upside I think your confused mate we did click over to 2014 this past new year didn't we haha

It looks awesome It will probly grow down till it hits the ground and then start throwing roots I had a small pach crest that did something similar it grew out to one side once that eventually hit the ground it started to throw roots While still having a raised piece in the middle not touching the soil Since it was only small i decided to chop it in half and had 2 rooted pieces ready to plant

    cleaning boab seed

didnt really now where to put this so i figured the chill space was as good as any does anyone have any experience in cleaning boab seed i've got a couple of nuts here my mate brought back from up north i've cracked one open an and the seeds are inside this kinda foam like stuff its really not easy to get off i bought some boab seed about a year ago and it was clean as no sign of any of the crap they're encased in is there any sort of trick to cleaning these seeds or what hopefully someone here has done it before i cant find any info on the net anywhere about ways to clean them

    cleaning boab seed

i'll pass on the suckin on em the stuff doesnt taste to good its meant to be edible but i'd rather not have to sit there and suck on 235 seeds haha might take a while they're pretty clean now there's still some stuff left on em i'll scrub em a bit more tomorrow and maybe wet em a bit when i do it hopefully that should get the rest off

    cleaning boab seed

I ended up just sitting there rubbing as much as I could off them then i put them in my soil sieve and got a scrubbing brush and just started scrubbing em with that against the metal mesh seemed to get most of it off There's gotta be an easier way though it was a fair bit of work my fingers are pretty raw after trying te rub the bulk of the crap off them A cement mixer or something similar with some good coarse sand would probly do the job but it's not really worth it unless you had thousands of seeds to clean Be good to try and make some sort of smaller electric machine that could tumble em around like a cement mixer I got 80 seeds out of one nut and 155 out of the other one so im pretty happy with that
