How about getting a prospectors license and going through the 'back door' (so to speak...) Most farmers have no problems with mineral prospectors accessing their property and, I am a little sketchy on the details here, I believe that they can't refuse you access on a regular pastoral lease (you are required to ask permission, but, as they only lease what's on top of the ground - not what's beneath it - , they are required to grant you 'reasonable access').

I have very few probs with my liquid cultures... I always use a little h2o2 in the solution if I'm starting from tissue culture or myc and have a 0% failure rate with these (I also dunk the tissue culture in 3% h2o2 for a few secs before I introduce it to the jar). If I'm starting from spore, I don't use syringes, but scrape a little into each jar with a sterile scalpel using oven tek (figure if I have a contam in the print and I make a syringe I'll stuff the whole lot up, but if I use spore I have a good chance of success in at least one of the jars...).

The Shroomery certainly has a 'mixed crowd'. I get a laugh in 'The Pub' from time to time and spend a lot of time in the growing forums, 'the Ethnobotanical Garden' and the 'Marketplace'. (I also ignore OTD and ODD just isn't my scene). I would doubt that they would bin OTD, though, for purely economic reasons... It's the most popular forum there (and the Shroomery relies heavily on advertiser's contributions...). Different strokes for different folks...

I would be interested too and legality isn't an issue here either...

I'm attempting to clone a fresh shiitake from the block onto 'cardboard agar' tonight (got it all prepared and ready to go). This is my 1st time to do this, so I'll keep y'all informed as to how it goes. The block came from Japan's most respected shiitake farm (just outside Takahama) and is fruiting like a demon

Howdy all.... Some of you might know me from 'other' forums -others are lucky I'm an Aussie a looong way from home (in Western Japan) and have taken an interest in ethnobotanicals. Been looking through the forums and am encouraged to see that the good natured bashing of other nationalities has continued in my absence (Keep it up guys! - That's what being an Aussie is all about!) Japanese beer is OK... Girls are pretty (but I'm married - sigh) and the money is good. Probably won't be home for a few years yet... So... That's me anyway (I'm an English teacher and father of 2 daughters and love the mounains and the beach)
