I think you are overly paranoid, however If you are a bit worried do this; Disable Java Script, it is the most common and easiest way you can be tracked without your knowledge. Disable Flash. Use an Incognito window in Chome or similar in firefox and enable the option "Don't track", which will send a request not to track you. If you are stressing out and about to throw the internet away investigate the TOR browser it is almost 100% anonymous when set up "correctly" and java script is off. HN

In 2009 I bought some seeds from a company overseas the packet was labelled Pediocactus Knowltonii, at the time I didn't have great interest in the species so didn't sow them right away. A few years later, the packet was still unopened, I decided to sow the seeds and out of 100 seeds only 2 seedlings emerged, probably due to the age of the seed. I grafted both of them when 14 days old, one of them took and began growing... Here is an internet picture of what a mature Pediocactus Knowltonii should look like; So after a few months my plant began to take shape and to my delight appeared to be a crest ! Time progressed and great it looks like a Pediocactus Knowltonii Crest. Time progressed to the point below and I started asking myself questions ?? Yeah It looks like a Knowltonii but it doesn't look quite right...After a fair bit of evaluation it hit me the ID is not right, to this day I'm not 100% sure but I believe it to be Echinocactus Grusonii Alba var Brevispinus Crest. Time progressed and I cut it up and grafted a few sections. This is the best one grafted to a Myrtillocactus

They are not actually sun burnt...well not yet. The colour change is an adaption due to the sun light much the same as our skin will tan. This colour change does not necessarily mean the plant is damaged or in bad health for this matter, however it is telling you that the sun is having an effect on the plant and prolonged exposure will cause damage. As a rule of thumb if seedlings get even the slightest sun burn they will turn to mush and die.

Hi all, I'm after a large cutting of any of the above two plants for a project I'm working on in my rear yard. I would also consider other giant columns, send me a PM. I have a vast variety of plants for trade including rare Ariocarpus, Astrophytum, Trichocereus, Lophophora and many other. Alternately I can pay cash for the cutting. HN

I have heard this crest can get to an enormous size and if the regular Grusonii is anything to go off this could get interesting.

DE on the soil surface will not completely prevent mites getting to your plants. They are so tiny they can travel in the air much the same as bacteria does.

I just had a look at the photos again and I think you also have an issue with spider mite... It is difficult to tell with the photographs but I believe the plant has mites and this is making things much worse. The mites damage the skin and make it weaker this compounds the genetic weakness, due to the the variegation, and the problem is much worse. I would dust the entire plant with a generous amount of Sulphor and Copper powder wait for a day, graft the areoles and hope.

Yeah I mean the whole plant, he can certainly graft 5 to 10 areoles from that plant easy.. Sorry for the confusion. The areoles at the top of the plant nearest the growing tip are the best and easiest areoles to graft, this area is very young tissue and was actively growing a very short time ago. Additionally the areoles at the top are usually a better shape and easier to handle. Hope that helps, get grafting.

As per other posts the plant is pretty much lost which is a real shame. However for future plants I believe this type of rot is caused by bacteria at the graft union and this is why you don't notice it until it is too late. Make sure you occasionally have a look up underneath where the two plants are joined and look for signs of rust/rot etc if anything at all is present treat it immediately. Additionally if at the time the graft was completed there was bacteria inside the graft union this will also cause this type of damage. All variegated plants are much much more susceptible to all types of bacterial diseases due to a weakening of the skin, this is also why they are prone to sun damage.

EG's advice is very good take that on board. I think the biggest issue with regards to this plants growth is you, put it back in the soil and let it grow.These plants have grown in the wild without any help or interference from us at all. Stop fussing over it and let it grow

Couple of freaks T.Bridgesii T Peru Monstrose X SS02 The two heads are actually attached to the same plant, so it has split into 4 and looks like it is splitting again :) this could get interesting if it keep going..

Yeah I'm with you Sabry there ain't a great deal of Schotii Monstrose here in aus, on top of that it grows so bloody slowly.

Yep definitely a Lophocereus Schotti Monstrose. Nice looking plant.
