    Ariocarpus fruit ????

Good job Philo. I get between 20 and 60 seeds per Ario fruit. The older and more mature the plant is, generally, you get more seed. I find grafted plants will produce less seed in the beginning but more after a few years.

    Trichocereus Cuttings

Hi, For sale I have 3 x Nice Trichocereus Cuttings. I'm not including specific subspecies or "named' clone details in this on purpose, I feel there is way too much emphasis on this and i want people to buy them based on knowledge and beauty, not a superficial name. That being said these do have names and are very attractive plants when mature. Sold as one lot, will postage extra. Asking $50 ono, PM me.

  4. Hi, I have two Trichocereus Peruvianus Monstrose X SS02 (Bridgesii) crests available, these two really are beautiful I particularly like the spineless section of number 1. The pictures tell the story. I am still figuring out a price I will put prices up soon. The plant on the left is Number 1 Plant on the right Number 2 NUMBER 1 NUMBER 2

    Trichocereus grandiflorus c.v.s

Really nice plants mate I have a few different varieties growing myself, I'm growing them all from seed so still probably a year or so before flowers. I've also got a couple of "Trichopsis" that should flower soon, can't wait to see the flowers on them.

    Best Soil for Lophs

No, I germinate and grow Lophophora to one year with coarse river sand alone. If you have trouble with it compacting, all you need to do is wash it first with water and this will remove the fine sediment that causes the sand to 'set'. HN

    Aztekium

I grafted to Pereskiopsis after about 5 months and had pretty good success rates. I tried after 1 month but could not get any to take.

    I've been TPQC'd !!

Yeah too right EG. I just moved a large Tricho from my back yard to my front yard and it was a massive task!!! Just to move it 50 metres.

Yes sorry that was my mistake. for clarification the plant is believed to be Trichocereus Pachanoi hybrid which originated from SS

    ID please

Hey all, I don't ask for many ID's these days but thought I would throw this one out there and see what people think. I don't want to add too many details about where it came from however a few points of interest. 1. I didn't grow the plant, I personally grow nearly all my plants but this one was through a trade. 2. I was told it was seed grown from seed sourced OS. I have been told the species but I want to hear your opinions first. Last but not least I think I have a pretty good idea of the ID myself Please your thoughts ? HN

    Solo spider mite found

Yeah smallish red spiders approx 1-2mm are no problem at all. Usually solitary or maybe a couple at a time, and they won't damage your plants. Spider mite will cause damage before you notice them :)

    Solo spider mite found

It would be very rare to only have a single mite, where there is one there is 1000. How big was the the mite you saw? To give you an idea of what you are looking for, spider mite are about the size of a single granule of flour. It would be almost impossible to see just one with the naked eye. The giveaway is usually tiny silky webs or the typical scaring they cause.

    Astrophytum thread

Yes variegation is definitely passed on. One variegated parent is usually enough to produce the trait in offspring. Usually stronger when the mother is variegated and father normal. However this is not always the case and occasionally you get unexpected (good) results when the mother is normal and father variegated or has another trait. HN

    Astrophytum thread

Generally Astrophytum traits get stronger/more pronounced as they get older., so if you see the trait early on that's a good sign. Don't worry nearly all seed sellers don't produce the seed themselves, so the info is at least third hand and has been translated from Japanese to German to English lol

Hey Philo, These days I believe the most accepted name is Stenocereus

    Trichocereus Bridgesii Monstrose Clone Types

    I have never really cared for the regular TBM/little penis we have here in Aus, it is a slow grower and has poor resistance to disease, pests and exposure to the elements. It also doesn't grow any faster if you put it in the ground, the root system must be effected by the mutation. If a monster/crest/hybrid etc is much weaker than the regular plant personally I don't bother with them, obviously the genetic mutation is working against the plant. A classic example is variegation, looks amazing but if the plant doesn't have the right balance of normal tissue the plant will be incredibly weak especially to sun light, but get it just right and you have a spectacular stable plant. What do you guys think about this ? I got this as a cutting a few years ago from an unknown source. It's a Trichocereus Bridgesii but exhibits some strange growth. It started on one single branch and now all the branches are starting to grow in a similar manner. It sort of reminds me of the Lophocereus Schotii Monstrose, totem pole growth. This is a picture of a branch of the plant. And here are two cuttings I took;

    Astrophytum thread

afungitobewith, I won't get too detailed but Astrophytum Cultivar seed is extremely complex, here are the basic reasons the first few being the major problem, , 1. People sell seed with the wrong name (usually on purpose to make money), IE they have Myriostigma Nuda which is worth very little and they will write Myriostigma CV Kikko Kohyo which is worth a lot. 2. People put up pictures of a plant and then you expect to get a similar plant from the seed. When in fact they just goggled a nice image and put it up. 3. People are not recording their crosses. In order to know what genetic traits you are likely to get both the Mother and Father need to be known I.E A.Myriostigma X A. Myriostigma CV Kikko Nuda etc. 4. Astrophytum genetics can be hit and miss but the majority of the time it is due to point 1. With regard to the Koh-yo colour, it means Autumn colour in Japanese, The yellow patches on my plant are Variegation, Koh-yo is a temporary colour change that usually occurs at the start or end of the growing season and can be any colour.. Orange, Yellow, Peach, Purple etc.

I have thought the same thing myself, I don't have that one in my collection, lets call it the "ebay clone" LOL. I remember visiting a nursery in western Sydney about 5 years ago and they were selling a few different crests, now my memory isn't the best and I didn't take a photo, but there were two crests right next to each other both about 15 bucks. The plant on the left was most definitely the the one below which is pretty common. The plant on the right I can't remember as clearly it was a little bit bigger in rib formation and spines but didn't strike me at the time as a Trichocereus, Maybe I was wrong? The first plant was labelled Cereus "Thai Crest", however I always thought it was Cereus Validus Monstrose Crest. Interesting looking cactus but nothing special for me Here are some other crests from the web just to completely confuse everyone. Remember the ID's on these may not be correct !! Lemairocereus (old name) Pilosocereus Pachycereus Echinocactus

    Astrophytum thread

No one has posted one of these yet Astrophytum Myriostigma CV Kikko Kohyo Variegata
  22. Yeah just had a look at that ebay plant. It's pretty poor for the asking price. Send me a PM 3rdl we should be able to sort something out. HN

    ID please

Ok thanks for your input. A little more info, the grower (who some people may know, but I will keep anon unless he wishes) stated the seed was labelled Trichocereus Pachanoi and it was grown by him in the last couple of years. As far as I'm aware it is not a clone of the original T.Peru crest doing the rounds. EG has hit the nail on the head when it comes to why I'm asking opinions. This could well be a Cereus crest rather than a Tricho, I was promised it was definitely a Tricho and I do have some faith in the trader. The best way to tell now I guess is graft a few sections and see how it progresses, it should become much larger once grafted for a while and then left to root. HN

Myrtillocactus X Peruvianus (So im told)

On first look I immediately thought Stenocereus. Just to add to what the others have said, always be skeptical of Intra-generic hybrids, they are so so rare and even some of the 'more' accepted Intra-generic hybrids I'm still not convinced are 100% legit. Just have a look at the variation in Astrophytum and all of this has this has been created by extensive hybridisation ( F2 hybrids, back crossing etc). Moral of the story is make the hybrids yourself or buy them from a legit grower.

Still Can't Believe I Found This at Bunnings

Looks a bit like the clone Yowie ? I wonder if it is a hybrid.
