yeh I've seen some dark-blue stained cubes... was trying to say I havent seen em that intense blue along the entirety of the stem. as in that big shroom in the last pic... especially from the wild. but then I've only ever picked one measly wild cubensis... P. Azurescens

congratulations! ps. cyan and azurescens probly dont grow in aus., you probly found subaeruginosa- it has a very variable shape ranging from convex to umbonated (with nipple) to upturned and wavy.. i usually find the wavy kind in grass, this makes me think it could be the higher humidty that overdevelops the cap??

    Ps. subaeruginosa near Melbourne

yeh it will either already have tints of blue/green before you pick or will develop noticable bruising on cap/stem/gills within 10-20 mins.. and first flush will bruise too. Gymnopilus purpuratus and Gym. spectabilis (or isit pampeanus)are supposedly active (if you can get enough of the bitter crap into yer gut) but dont stain blue. though ive never eaten and maybe never will...

    Fly Argaric

trying to innoculate established trees may be unsuccessful due to the already established mycorrhizal fungi. you could try a method used in cultivating other mycorrhizal fungi, e.g. truffles, but youll probably have to wait some years to be rewarded- innoculate either seed/young seedlings with spores/mycelium/fresh fruitbodies/pine needles gathered from around fruitbodies. i skimmed thru this doc for some info: Afforestation of treeless areas " In addition to organic matter and acidification, phosphorus fertilization seems to be one of the most effective measures for activating mycorrhiza-forming fungi" " large amounts of Rhizopogon luteolus sporophores were used to inoculate nursery soils in Western Australia in the 1920s" Hebeloma sp. " In the nursery, both the mycelium and spores were used as inoculum. Several months after inoculation, the inoculated seedlings formed straight and unbranched ectomycorrhizas with cottony mycelium. Some sporophores were formed and reached maturity. " jeez....

    Straw as substrate

you would wana pasteurise it - sterilising apparantly opens the straw up to bad contams. submerge in 65 degC water for 1 hr, weigh the straw down with something so its not poking outta the water. cool to room temp then spawn.

    Growing mushies

quote:What do I need to get started growing if I bought a cubensis print ?Do different species require different techniques ? sounds like yer asking about outdoor cubensis patch, rather than a woodlover patch.yes- different species require different techniques, different substrates. Cubensis - grows off cow/horseshit and straw. fruits in warm temps. Subaeruginosa - grows off woodchips, leaf litter. fruits in cold temps. me buddy did this a couple of summers back- spawn some cowshit with BRF jars, chuck in a hole in the garden, apply casing layer, cover with big clear bucket, lift to aerate every couple days. should pop up if its warm enough (>20 degC). Mycelium and Condensation

hi. me buddy usually duznt stress too much about condensation in my jars, unless its really pooling up in there, then it may start stalling growth/promote bacteria. must be going ok if you got a good amount of mycelium after 4 days from spores- me buddy usually cant see any growth for 5-6 days (room temp). it shouldnt hurt tipping the jars upside down if yer worried though. sounds good to me anyway

    mushroom curiosity

    1. once someone i know chopped up a 200 ml verm/brf cake, let it sit in lemon juice (vitamin C extracts the good shit). strained, drank it and got smiley. not much effect but noticeable and pleasant. 2. P. cub's need a light period (at least a couple hours a day) to initiate pins and tell them which way to grow, but i personally think they grow faster during dark. 3. yes, to fruit put cake on lid in terrarium and keep both humidity and oxygen levels high. i prefer to crumble cake and case, they will fruit under lower humidity than cakes.
