    T. Bridgesii in western Australia

Check gumtree. A lady named Mary has a massive tricho farm down in Kojanup. Her son's collection that shes selling cuttings from, theres a number of Peruvianus, Bridgesii, Pachanoi, Tbm, tercheki, etc..... Theres one other seller on gumtree but closer to the metro area. Then theres Oxy whose in victoria park, hes on eBay and has loads of bridgesii varieties. Theres also a few SAB members who live down south who might be able to help you out. Id probably have something to offer next season but most of my bridgesii hasnt pupped, being cuttings that rooted this season.
  8. Hi, I have been looking for Ariocarpus cultivar seed and they are pretty difficult to find. So far I have located 3 sources and the prices are astronomical. Since these are seriously expensive, I'd like to go with a seller with a proven track record and reliable germ rates, but of course, price does matter. For example -A private collector lady from italy 5 seeds of Ariocarpus Fissuratus cv Super Godzilla (green coral) - 30.00 Euro -Admins of Cactuscultivars forum 5 seeds of Ariocarpus Fissuratus cv Godzilla - 18.00 Euro -Botanical Archive 5 seeds of Ariocarpus Pectinatus x Fissuratus cv Godzilla - 9.70 Euro As you can see, even though all these prices are eyewatering, the price fm Botanical Archive appears to be the most reasonable. However, the admins of Cactuscultivars provide photos of the mother and father plants, seems legit, where as BA has a single photo that could be of no relation to the seeds provided. Does anyone here have experience with BA or with the admins of cactuscultivars? What are their seeds germ rates like, and are they what is advertised? Thanks for the help.
  9. Damn Olive... you must have some sixth sense for rare cacti.

    Germinating Caapi

Here's my remaining seedlings from a week ago, sitting below my main caapi plant which has gone nuts this year. I've traded away 7 of them and this is what's left. Also 2 Alicia Anisopetala seedlings on the left.

    Sun damage ?

I had this, it just scars up and a bit of it returns to green again. I didn't move them, I just rotated the sunburnt side to face the shade instead. It seems to happen at extreme heat or when the cacti are diverting resources elsewhere, like making a pup.

    Help with caapi

My caapi seedlings had browning leaves when kept them in to much moisture, the water was pooling at the bottom of the fishtank they were in and it seems like they dont like wet feet. Also, they dont seem to like hot roots, I noticed an imprivement immediately after i took them off the bottom heater i used for germination. Ive never given my seedlings direct sunlight and they are happy, they are in full shade with mirrors for reflected light. Three different strains and all green leaves now with new growth. Give them warm bright shade, protection from wind (open top fish tank works), and keep the soil moist but not sodden.
  16. Hi, I've got excess of the following for trade, preferably within WA, but the seeds could go interstate. I will be attaching photos for the plants to update this thread shortly. SEED - 50 x Obregonia Denegrii (gone) 50 x Thelocactus hexaedrophorus 50 x Strombocactus Disciformis (gone) 30 x Ariocarpus Furfuraceous (gone) 25 x Ferocactus chrysacanthus - v rubrispinus (gone) 25 x Coryphantha Echinus (gone) also more seeds than i have room to sow of - Rivea Corymbosa (gone) Ipomoea Heavenly Blue Acacia - Burkitti, Neurophylla, Acuminata v. small-seed PLANT - 2 x Rooted logs with pups - Pachanoi/Scopulicola hybrid (1 left) 1 x Rooted small pup - Pachanoi/Scopulicola hybrid very fast growing, thick plant. 1 x Rooted log with pups - Spineless Scopulicola (gone) 1 x Unrooted log with pup - Spineless Scopulicola Photo is of the tip I'm keeping, rooted log of the same plant to the right. nice looking spineless variety, really fat base on this one. 1x Rooted etoliated mid section with pup - Urban Tribez Bridgesii (gone) I cut out the etoliated mid section of this Brisgesii, its taken root and started to pup. 1 x Unrooted log - Pachanoi (not PC) (gone) 1 x Unrooted pup - Pachanoi (not PC) quite fat, nice looking plant, got it from a little old lady because the storms broke the mid section and crushed her front garden. 1 x Cuzcoensis in terracota pot Photo coming, main stem is 1.4m and has 3 pups, but has some scarring on the largest pup from healed black spots during the heavy rains. I also have extra grafting stock cuttings available (PC pach, hylocereus, pereskiopsis) I also have a few healthy Caapi seedlings, 3 varieties. One last thing, I could also consider trading containers of seedlings, I have far to many trichocereus seedlings, (Goliath, red spined Peruvianus, Koehres Scopulicola, etc....)

    Seed storage - desiccant?

I've used desiccant to store pollen, and it works fine in the fridge / freezer. Can i use desiccant for seed storage? Or can it damage the seeds? Can the seeds be to dry or can to much desiccant suck goodness out of the embryo? Probably a noob question but I am curious? Cheers

    How to Save this Fellow

While the weather is still warm, I'd just cut and root it. A 3 day callous with a fan could be sufficient if the rooting medium is pure pumice.

    Variegated?

Variegation seems to look much prettier on agaves, aloes and fat leaved succulents. It often takes on a patchy appearance with cacti, particularly columnars, for some reason. Some globulars get cool variegated patterns though, like Astrophytums. I'd definately love to see a variegated tricho where the variegation adhered to some kind of growth pattern.

    cactus ID mucho thanks ..

Thats a great find then, you should plant it. Just make sure the wound is calloused nicely first. With big pieces like that you can accelerate the callous hardening with a bit of morning sun on the end. Big scops look quite majestic, its a keeper.

    cactus ID mucho thanks ..

That's a Scopulicola. It looks far to healthy to be randomly growing in the wild and was probably someone's property that you have taken.

    Root Pruning Ariocarpus

I've seen the popular Asian cultivation technique where they prune the roots, even chopping taproots, during repotting. This is to encourage more fine root growth and lower the risk of rot with less fleshy taproot underground. Kada has an article about this and Hanazono (Frank) also prunes the roots of his slow growers. The resulting plant is a bit like a degraft I guess, able to grow faster, take in more water, and be more rot resistant. Having never done this before, I'm obviously a bit uncertain. But I do like the results I see, and would like to try. Here is my Ariocarpus Kotschoubeyanus, received today. I have potted him in a dry mineral mix for now, but would like to consider pruning that taproot. How far up should I cut? How long do I need to callous in this hot weather? And finally, how long before first watering after callousing?
