Cactus of the month year day thread? Which cactus is really shining for you right now?
MountainGoat replied to ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ's topic in Cacti & Succulents
dude! that's awesome! I've been dreaming about a vari crest for like... forever.... -
yeah, i've just grafted a fair chunk of what i had onto 4 big fat cereus.... One didn't make it (i think it was too much downward pressure and it then rotted) but the others are looking good... I don't have much of it to trade currently, spring/summer... If you're really stinging for a bit i'm sure i could find a bit but it'd have to be grafted and its too cold now to graft till spring... (unless you've got lights going....)

i haven't been in to the village to post yet, tomorrow....

Advice on Dragon Fruit grafting with Trich
MountainGoat replied to Bruce's topic in Cacti & Succulents
pereskiopsis, however its unlikely you would just see it around unless someone was using it for grafting stock... Its neither nice or beautiful, however its pretty useful grafting stock... I've got a feeling that you may be thinking of Sedum, which you would see in nurseries and gardens but it is not grafting stock.... -
hey mate, i;m guessing with Hillbillios that you mean tbm clone B. I'll be sending out those dragon fruit cuttings to you in the morning. I'll swing you a segment in the box....

Sale is back on, still plenty of things available... I've added a few things, and i'll add some more cactus tomorrow... @Micromegas cool, i didn't know that. Yeah, it grows big and quick. By far my fastest growing peru, i get about 2 feet a year plus pups etc... And when its been cut, it'll pup within a couple of months, unlike my other perus that take nearly a year to pup for me....

Nice one Skell, glad to hear it. The SG red spine is from Secret Garden, Spooge sourced it originally from there and i just named it SG to distinguish it from MG red spine...

Ahh, I think I didn’t read properly. So, your asking for bids on the whole lot...? I’ll kick it off with a bid of $100. Is there a deadline on the bidding?

You were fast paradoxical... that looks like a great buy.... I’ll put my hand up for it if you decide to pass on it...

breeding trichocereus for wet tolerance? Who hs done it?
MountainGoat replied to kadakuda's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I live in the wet tropics, i've been growing trichs for a few years here. I struggle with bridges, i find pach to be the most tolerant of wet weather. I do tend to get some fungal issues in the high humidity times. However, this year i've done well. No real issues. I mean i lose a few every now and then, but its still worth the loses. I've found raised beds with very free draining soil the best if in the ground. Terracotta pots, never plastic. And don't use sand.... ever. Volcanic rocks are good. We got lots of rain in March, well over 2m of it and i didn't have any loses.... The down side to growing trichs in the tropics is that they don't seem to flower, or at least i've never had any trich flowers... Up side is that they grow all year.... -
I mostly do instrumental stuff, this track was actually my first time working with a vocalist... I've got an non-vocal EP coming out soon from this project. I also launched another project that same day, check it out if you're keen....

Cactus ID (From sh*t photo)
MountainGoat replied to TheMooseZeus's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
yeah, you'll have to get a better photo if you want an accurate ID. If you really want an ID, get a shots of the flower and the areoles... p.s when you say its "always flowering", do you really mean "always"? Like it flowers in winter also? -
Nice one gimli. It’ll be interesting to se how big this list gets. There’s sooooo many clones. Is the list specifically not hybrids? It’d be good to get a hybrid thread too with parentage info too...

Filtering your water!
MountainGoat replied to Zedo's topic in Sustainable Technologies & Ethical Living
Nice topic. Yeah, you've got to filter your water if your not on rainwater... We're on bore-water, its undrinkable without filtering. We usually go to local streams and springs to fill up our drinking water, but we invested in a great filter too. I very highly recommend this filter (https://www.psifilters.com.au/countertop-reverse-osmosis-systems/10070-4-stage-countertop-reverse-osmosis-system.html) and its very affordable for quality water.... For those in the city, it removes something like >95% of the chlorine and fluoride, amongst other things, and it re-mineralises the water... -
