    Black rot & Trichocerei

I found the mother lode of black rot today, on a plant that had been all but buried by vegetation in my backyard jungle. Extreme etiolation and black rot the likes (or extent) of which I've never seen before.
  3. Pruning is recommended by Marion Simmons, the late acacia guru. It's better to prune a straggly tree than to stake it, she wrote. Some of these may be banned for their carcinogenic effects on human health, at least in relation to the cultivation of food crops and (at least in theory) home-grown cannabis?

  6. After I split the pods and extract what I can of the seed, I sow the "empty" husks too (i.e. chuck em on top of a pot, with a handful of soil, sand etc over the top, and wet it once a day). Stuck seeds have begun to germinate that way, but it's taken a couple of weeks for them to break through. I didn't have much success using the takeaway container method, probably didn't wet my media properly (lots of condensation gathering but surface of media remained dry). Ziplock bag is definitely fastest, in my experience, but only for the naked seeds (no pod or husk material, as it attracts microbial growth inside the bag). UPDATE. Split pods with seed have germinated much faster than the winged seeds alone: compare top and bottom halves of plastic container, pictured. All were merely scattered on the surface and loosely covered with sand (i.e. I didn't orient the bare seed, as recommended by some). Hard to see, but only 1 or 2 new seedlings have emerged on the "bare seed" side.

THC Gel Caps & Saliva Test

Sounds plausible. I am loathe to consider how gelatine is obtained. Is the roadside test admissible in court, or is a more sophisticated test required to be conducted back at the police station, as with some other drugs?
  8. https://uses.plantnet-project.org/en/Catha_edulis_(PROTA) A lot of useful info here, but a botanical glossary would definitely help! e.g., seeds do not remain viable for long (unspecified timeframe).
  9. My method is a lot more chaotic, and I deprive them of any fixed orientation until I remove the young seedling -- at first sign of first leaves -- from the humidified plastic bag. I let them find their own way, once I place them in small pots of coarse sand/perlite, although DIY potting mix has worked well also. Germination rates were significantly higher and faster for me using the ziplock bag, than any other method I tried. As pictured: (L) I used my fingers to pick them out and place them gently into the 4 x square cells, and within a few days they had shot upwards (R) a few days later I flushed out the remainder and poured them into the prepared circular pot, where they righted themselves in a matter of days I don't let them dry out, give them a small amount of water each day. So far, so good. I'm a seed sprouter from way back, so don't think keeping the bag upright or still is critical at this early stage of development. After all, there's no medium to support their orientation with respect to gravity or light. I throw my ziplock bag around any which way, primarily to prevent standing moisture.
  10. I had presumed phyllode production to be the ultimate goal? Don't get me wrong ... I've got some beauties kept in containers. Do acacia trees flower and set seed in a container? Mine haven't, as yet. I've got a dwarf phlebophylla if anyone's interested in bonsai effect.
  11. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khat#/media/File:Rational_harm_assessment_of_drugs_radar_plot.svg Khat seems relatively, if not positively harmless -- surprisingly, given the level of global interest in controlling this substance.
  12. I doubt A. obtusifolia and A. courtii would qualify for container-growing, on account of their potential size. A.courtii grows to a height of 20 metres. To my knowledge, most Australian Acacia trees put down a large taproot. A. phlebophylla may be the rare exception, suitable for container growing -- according to Herbalistics (?) website. There could be other smallish Acacia varieties too, that might be more suitable.

  15. According to E. Wade Davis (1983): [...] close to Huancabamba, found only on the steep slopes of an isolated geological formation known as the Cerro Colorado, there occurs a second species of psychoactive cactus named pishicol ( Armatocereus laetus (HBK.) Backeberg) ( Davis 759). This plant, previously unreported as an hallucinogen, is an extremely rare endemic known from only four localities, all in northern Peru: Jaen, east of the Abra Porculla on the boundary of the departments of Piura and Cajamarca, Sondorillo, and Huancabamba on the Rio Huancabamba (Zimmerman pers. comm.). It is a tall columnar, night-blooming cactus (12 feet), with erect, articulated branches with six to eight ribs. According to Dr. Allan Zimmerman, an expert in the neotropical Cactaceae, there are two other Armatocereus species in the region, but "one {A. Rauhii Backeb. has shorter spines and is a tall slender tree; the other (A. Ghiesbreghtii (K. Schumann) Ritter, var. oligogonus (Rauh. et. Backeberg) Ritter.) has stems that are only four to five ribbed." (Zimmerman pers. comm.). Pishicol is considered by don Pancho Guarnizo to be as powerful as San Pedro and is prepared and ingested in a similar way [...] Davis_BML29.4_367_oct1983.pdf

    Khat seed

The split pods sometimes don't release their seed; these I put in a glass jar (with lid) and shake for a few seconds, sift out the loose seed, then repeat. Too much shaking tends to decimate the wings. The drier the pods, the easier. These little seedlings were sprouted in a ziplock bag, definitely the fastest method I've tried. Lots of seed available. I even sold a bunch on eBay (in the day or two I had before eBay cancelled the listing. It's a cutthroat world, online selling.)

  18. https://scialert.net/fulltext/?doi=biotech.2015.65.71 From the results of this study, the following conclusions can be obtained. The khat leftover can be used to cultivate the oyster mushrooms namely Pleurotus oestreatus, Pleurotus oestreatus-florida and Pleurotus sajor-caju, consequently reducing this organic pollutant in Eastern part of Ethiopia. The otherwise waste khat left over can be used to increase bulk of food produced impacting food security. The FWFB and BE of Pleurotus sajor-caju fruit bodies are superior to that of the other tested oyster mushroom. Khat left over substrate has higher BE than substrates like wheat bran, even though, its productivity and BE was lower than those Pleurotus sp., cultivated on other types of substrates. Therefore, further research on enhancing the suitability of khat leftover and increases the yield of oyster mushroom, using different methods of pretreatments and optimal formulation by adding different high nitrogen containing substrates would be recommended.
  19. Only three small Acacia obtusifolia clones survived a 9-month (or so) propagation experiment. The mother is the sapling in second pic -- the fast-growing straggly one, around 3 years' old. The three clones are up for grabs. I have no further need of them, but figure someone might have a space in their garden needs filling. Keep in mind, I won't be going anywhere near a Post Office until Jan 2023. PM if interested.

A few small Acacia obtusifolia clones

I agree totally, seeds are faster by a long shot. But I didn't know that yet! This was purely an experiment, I took cuttings of A. obtusifolia (a particularly vigorous specimen) and of A. phlebophylla (no weakling either) for comparison. The goal was to be able to clone A. phlebophylla, an endangered species. I learned a few things along the way. 1. it takes time - from late summer to the beginning of the next 2. aeration of root zone produces speedier results 3. be gentle when hardening off (I lost more than a few to afternoon sun) 4. A. phlebophylla seems quite resistant to this method of propagation, as reported by others Propagating acacias via cutting, rather than seed, is recommended where hybridisation is likely to have occurred (e.g. suburbia) but true-to-type plants are required. (Marion Simmons)
  21. I have seed that has sprouted tails, using this Buttsack method. What's the next step? When/how to plant into what kind of growing medium? Soil, or something sterile like vermiculite? I've heard the seedlings are prone to damping off, so figure it might be best to get them out of the bag asap.
  22. From last year's flowers. I came across them in a desk drawer, hopefully still viable. Happy to give away to interested members. Easy-to-grow succulent with medicinal properties. PM if you want to give them a try.

    Origins of changa/inhaled xhuasca

It''s not such a giant leap from smoking DMT to smoking an MAOI in combination. For those in the know. Acccording to (ahem) the Internet, [Nick Sand] was the first underground chemist to synthesize DMT rather than extracting it from natural sources, and the first person to discover that the DMT freebase could be smoked. Whatever. I'm inclined towards withdrawl clinic's hypothesis. As good as any, despite Wikipedia and its leading authorities. Nick Sand is by no means the inferior candidate. http://psychedelicfrontier.com/just-wee-bit-more-dmt-nick-sand/ ... and I'm hooked, rather than trepidatious.
