wont get covered in sticky goo from just pulling a few flowers, that takes all day pulling leaf in the field. TBH i would not worry about removing at this point either as it only makes a difference when you catch it early. But it does matter when caught at the right time. Lived in one of the largest tobacco producing states in america for my whole life, it is about the only thing that grows in the dirt around here because all we have is red clay. Been working on tobacco farms for my whole life.

well first off if you are looking to harvest it you need not let it flower. when you let it flower you take away some of its nutrient that goes into leaf production In you are planning on collecting seed you only need one or two plants for that. Harvest time depends on a few things like when you planted it. But so far as i know you should do it around 40-60 days after its transplanted from its seedling container you should start harvesting from the bottom up. you can harvest it for a few weeks at a time.

Well lets hope he breeds with a nice female. Tons of them just hatched around here and i cought pictures. and and finally But today in my garden i took cuttings from my Delosperma Cooperi "ice plant" to propagate via cutting. And checked on my desmanthus here. This is second year of life for this plant. It looks like four of them but they all come off the same stump from last years growth. There is a second stump in here but i noticed no growth till now, It has about 5 or 6 little buds forming on it like its about to start growing now even once i gave up on it.

Did a little bit of stuff today. I transplanted my Aztekium ritteri graft today into a bit more nutrient full soil, i cut out some of the lime stone i was using and replaced it with perlite though i am still using around 9% lime stone in the mix. Maybe 15% Black Kow brand manure compost, 15% black Kow top soil compost, 10% regular top soil, 30% sand and a couple other secrets. I also did it to check on the root development of the root stock. i planted this aztekium root stock about 3 months ago when it had hardly any roots. now its like this Funny, while i was transplanting it i noticed something pink in the middle of the areoles on the aztekium. SO it is about to flower yay! im so excited for it! Looks like 4 flower buds, but some of the pups have pink forming as well Transplanted this Euphorbia into a new pot and soil today. Saved it from some old mans green house who gave it to me because it was almost dead last year. dont know the exact species but its like hoodia or something. My peruvian Torch cutting i got a couple months ago is throwing a pup, The spines on this plant were trimmed back for shipping so i cant wait to see how the long ones look with this developing pup

Hey now, i have a small collection myself and i still showed some of it off. PLease show off your babies. i dont care if they are seedlings or not. Something is wrong with either how you were growing them, or the seed stock you got because a four year old Ariocarpus should be at least 5cmn across if not more. What color are yours and did you ever notice any color changing? back in September right after i brought my Ariocarpus over to my windows and lighting for my cacti and they got too much light and started turning olive green colored and almost brown at some of the tips. After that it took them at least a month and a half to recover from the sun stress, a managed to get them behind a few of my other cacti to be protected from the light better (even though they already had plastic lids for light blocking and humidity). A couple months ago they were all growing really good and then in april i put them outside and god sun damage again and now they are stalled out again for another 2 or 3 months. If you got sun damage they would also grow incredibly slow, but four years is still a hell of a long time for it to stay the size of a loph sprout. they develop their first tubrical leaves at 4 or 5 months old. And i have only grafted One ariocarpus to a pereskiopsis and i did it without pressure or and real technique. i just cut and grafted it off center to the water core and it took. I love both your A. Retusus plants, the double flower in the first picture is beautiful as well. Your A Bravoanus graft looks interesting, im so use to seeing the thinner longer leaves of a rooted specimen. Are you sure it is not A. Bravoanus Var. Hintonii? As i recall A. Bravoanus does not have areoles on the tips of its tubricals. the hybrid is really cool too. i really want to get into Hybridizing my own Ariocarpus once they get large enough to flower. They are one of the few species i enjoy hybrids of. so long as i know what kind of hybrid. Funny though because the Ariocarpus genus is really messed up anyway. Trigonus and confusus are two sub species of retusus, they are the result of natural hybridization. And most people consider them their own species, which they are subspecies i guess,

Getting around to that, i have been working on propagating my pereskiopsis to get my numbers up after grafting some ariocarpus and aztekium. I will graft it soon, the issue is grafted plants do not look the same as their root grown brothers. the spines will be longer and the over all look will be changed so its hard to guess what it is still. Im still going to graft a few. Supposed San Pedro grafted to pereskiopsis

IME too much nutrient can lead to rapid swelling and water retention which leads to cracks and splitting. Lophs by themselves are susceptible to over watering and splitting even without being fed fertilizer. personally when i fertilize any of my cacti i do it once every month and a half that way i get in four good fertilizer doses before i have to bring in all my plants for winter. Personally i like to use the product SuperThrive which promotes root growth and is super nutrient packed. it comes in a liquid form and the ratio of its use is one drop per gallon of water, personally i find several drops per gallon works better with my plants. A lot of the signs you will learn to look for yourself. Color change is a hint but a vague one, I have had several cacti swell up and turn red like run burn(but not actually burned) before splitting. My grafts do it too, sometimes they swell up and turn red the first couple months.

I got seeds from them last year in august, i planted 100 of their trichocereus peruvanus seeds in the same manner i planted other trichocereus and ariocarpus seeds. from other venders i got 60-80% germination rate with seeds. With koehres seeds i planted 80 of the T. peruvanus seedlings and only 16 came up. that is only a 20% germination rate. Ontop of that they have grown slower than my ariocarpus seedlings, which is saying something. They are about the size of my san pedro seedlings when they were 4 months old. They are under the same light, same soil, same everything as all my plants that were growing wild during their winter indoors under artificial light and natural window light. I dont understand why they are growing so slow, but i plan to transplant them into a smaller pot so they are closer together and help protect each oher, plus i will put some different soil in with less lime stone and see if that helps.

I only grow inside during winter because they cannot stand freezing temperatures for long at all. they are fully tropical and wont winter unless indoors. I had no room for extra lights so he got to get a bay window and grew well, now he is outside and producing many new vines. clone time! As i said above, Woodrose wont survive the cold, frost killed two of mine, and it was only a lite frost. they must be wintered no matter how old. they need warm and light.

Hello everyone. I could not find a very recent Thread on the Hawaiian baby woodrose so i figured i would start this one and see who all here is still growing them. I got my own Woodrose last year in July. It was a gift from a Shaman friend of mine who has been teaching me for almost 2 years now. It is actually a clone from his plant which was grown from seed. Clones from woodrose vines are tricky to take but work well. My vine had been on the plant for 3 years and off the plant for 2 now, It has grown a lot and i will show you the picture of it as of a couple weeks ago and then it when i first got it and such. Im working on taking clones from her now and have two spots scaffold rooting right now which is where you wrap a pot around a vine where you pulled a leaf node at and rooting it from there with rooting hormone and soil. nice wild growth July 8th of 2013 July 13th after i got it something to grow on. And now for some reason all the other pictures i want to upload of it are too large even though they were all taken with the same camera so i will try and upload them later.

I assure you that the larger cuttings also grow, much faster in fact. thats one reason why i like them. I have several trichocereus cuttings. I have a few nice established plants as well and i would like to add a few more to my collection I will double check those sites to see if it looks like i would want to buy their stock..

Shoot, what are you talking about? that loph will be fine! if that heals right it will keep growing, the tip was not damaged. Plus you have pups on it you can graft in an emergency. the genetics are still there.

Cute little graft freak of mine. It is a "ming thing" or Cereus Forbesii monstrose. i grafted a small areole from a mother plant and the way it grew into a partial crest here is cool, its not a true crest but its still a ming thing monstrose, it just happens to look double weird. You will notice the callous spots, it had a battle with the dreaded orange rot. Weird growth on my penis cactus aka trichocereus bridgesii monstrose. this pup is producing areoles and spines. this picture is a couple weeks old but its still producing really bumpy growth

they can survive and thrive even after damage. just takes time.

Im not. you can look over on the Mycotopia.net form and see i have been a member there almost a year and that i only just recently started getting into hard core cactus collecting. Between april of 2013 and a few months ago i have collected 54 different genus of cacti and many sub species and hybrids, at least 150 or more cacti are in my collection not to mention the other Shaman plants i have. Im a very young fellow, im a 90s child. Im not this zicron or whatever. im not even defending him. I flat out said he was a jack ass in my first comment. As a new member i really dont feel like this is very welcoming. However, this forum is full of very bright and intellectual people.....i hope.

I figured out a way. But its only something you can do if you have an instagram app account. I accessed it from here and i have all my pictures uploaded onto it and i take a screen shot with my computer, which happens to be the right size. I just dont have ALL my pictures on the app. Thank you very much for the complement, i will tell my woodrose she has another admirer. Im taking clones from her now so i hope to get a few new plants of it going. It has so mnay side branches i have at least 6 places i could clone easy and still have a nice mother plant.

A nice Trichocereus Pachanoi, not the PC pachanot you normally see. this is the short spine san pedro found in nature unlike the PC pachanot which was made through hybridization. PC pachanot is the most common san pedro. took me a long time to find this cutting. A second view of my peruvian torch arm, it has grown about 1.5 inches since i put it outside two weeks ago as can be seen by the green tip growth. Here is one of the pups off my Aztekium ritteri, the first picture is of the graft a week after i did it, you can see the vascular joining. the second picture is after i added the glue. Too scared of them coming off to not use it. Two trichocereus bridgesii, Both planted at the same time. the one with the pup was producing the pup before i rooted it. this picture shows how much a pup can take from its mother plant. the root system should be much bigger after 3 months like the other one next to it Typical ariocarpus retusus, one of my first ariocarpus cacti. ariocarpus bravoanus The last picture is of delosperma cooperi, not sure if you guys know but it is a magic plant as well

I agree, most labels are wrong and the only thing we have to go on is the word of the seller and what we can see by eye. To me i see a lot of bridgesii in that one as many of the areoles of the larger section had 2-4 long spines. At the same time i counted up to 7 or 8 spines in other areoles. So its not a true pachanoi, its a mutt just like most cacti. But its obviously not very close to being a peruvian torch. i have a short spine peruvian torch, the areoles look like sheilds as opposed to pachanoi which depending on the cultivar with have sunken in areoles that point up(PC pachanot) OR smaller areoles with the spines facing down. those are the two typical styles of pachanoi and one of the easiest way to tell the difference in most cases. Spine count, areoles shape and spacing, and a few other things play a key role.

ok so it was laying on its side? im well aware that it can root from the tip, anywhere there are areoles or vascular tissue it can root. However did you psychically plant the cactus with the tip in the dirt? because i have done this more than once and so have many other collectors. I know at least 3 people who have gotten unmarked mid section cuttings and planted them upside down and they ended up dying. I have tried to root pilosocereus, several stenocereus, 2 trichocereus, and a few cereus cacti upside down and not a single one worked.

How is it an example when its in Germany, i cant buy it or ship it to america and its not even the right cactus. thats the opposite of an example. I get that you are trying to help and i really appreciate it, but you are just making my point that i said before: its really f**king hard to find a nice sized peruvian torch that i would be able to buy despite what so many have been claiming.

Thats the thing. i have plenty of small cuttings and such. 3 typical peruvian torches, an SS02, and many others and more hybrids as well. I am fine growing them and eventually they will become bigger but thats eventually. The larger the cactus i can buy the quicker it grows and the more cacti i can get from it. I like the beauty of a decent sized plant, does not even have to be rooed so long as its larger than a foot long. thats my main issue. there is never any nice tip cuttings of good size much less a potted rooted cactus. Pachanoi is great and all but i avoid it mostly. With the PC pachanot running rampid through collections and sellers i try to avoid all the sub species. The problem is unless you know what you are looking for most pachanoi look the same. I have yet to see a picture of a juuls giant that does not look like a pachanoi but really fat. plus in america and on our ebay people will sell PC pachanot all day long as these sub species just to make a quick buck

i have checked the USA version. i check it weekly for ariocarpus, aztekium, and trichocereus. Never have a found a cactus like this for sale. i also cant order this from Germany as customs wont allow it. Tried it before and they took it. I have tried ebay time and time again but with very little luck Edit: it says that that cactus is a pachanoi by the way, not a peruvian torch.
