Been meaning to check out wingello this autumn, but I won't be able to do a weekend until probably May. I'll really need a camp by then... -

No, not in the freezer, just in the fridge part. Trust me, works a treat. -
Amanita muscaria ULTIMATE super-duper thread
Strontium Dawg replied to sagiXsagi's topic in Mycology
I make use of a frost free refrigerator for drying. I leave whichever edible species I have in there on a rack or on paper towels and it takes a few days but they get cracker dry. The low temperature keeps all the nutrition in there. Sorry to go slightly off topic but it seems drying was being discussed. -

Amanita muscaria ULTIMATE super-duper thread

Thanks sagi. I have always been fascinated by amanitas since an early age. The folklore that surrounds them goes back into the mists of history. The first time I found a single specimen more than 25 years ago I picked it and dried it to keep as an amulet. It would be interesting to know from where amanitas in oz originate. They certainly seem to be more prolific than they used to be. They even grow in urban areas now, I found a patch in a local park last June. Can we be clear about your dosage guidelines above, the numbers represent dries grams not quantity of carpophores/caps? I think it's important as this is a substance to be treated with the utmost respect. -
Awesome place by the way skellum. I see a lot of cereus planted basically right on the shoreline near where I am a little further up the coast, with very similar geology and they do fine, so I would expect trichos to also cope reasonable well.
-
Hey bud, I'm pretty sure they'll do fine. The salty winds might give them a battering but trichos are tough. I'd amend the soil a bit in the holes and watch out for drainage if there's clay underneath as the water might pool around the roots.

Mapacho I can send you some seeds if you like. I get mine from a Persian grocer, she's a very nice lady and is always happy to chat about traditional uses for esphand. I don't think she quite understands why I buy a kilo at a time though! -

Bingo. Ringtail possums are what I have. They love munching lophs too...

There are usually two culprits for Thia type of bite where I live: cockatoos and possums. It's hard to prevent unless you want to sit and watch them 24 hours a day, or you are willing to keep all your cacti in mesh enclosures.

3mm gravels/sands, coir, mediums etc
Strontium Dawg replied to Drake1337's topic in Australian Native Plants
I wouldn't be adding much charcoal if any at all. It will raise your pH to a level that's not very suitable. I've had good success rates with courtii seeds in commercial native soil mix. Just be wary of damping off from the mix staying too wet. -

Turnbull meets the trunchbull! What a beige disappointment of a banker is our pm.

If they're trichos, I wouldn't worry too much about mineral based mix. I just dig a hole, mix in some chicken manure and plant them. Just keep an eye on drainage, if you're in Sandy soil though you should be sweet with no problems. Sometimes they take a while to adjust, but they'll be happy in the long term and get fat af.

Share your dreams (the sleeping kind, not the "I want a pony" kind)
Strontium Dawg replied to gtarman's topic in Chill Space
Jeez tell me what you really think of me mate! Lol I've found a combo of codeine and doxylamine (like night strength mersyndol) never fails to generate weird, intense and extremely vivid dreams that are easily recalled. -
I certainly wouldn't be letting expanding foam anywhere near it whatever else you do. It's not a closed cell foam, so it absorbs water and will cause more rot. I'd give it a douse with sulfur and keep it dry for a while. If it doesn't turn to mush in a month I think you might be in the clear and can avoid the surgery.
