    Gnat/Gnat Larvae Infestation

You are close. I use 1 part fox farm organic soil, 1 part coir, and 1/2 part worm castings for my pereskiopsis soil. Then I inoculate it with thricoderma/mycorrhizae/other beneficial bacterias. I'm actually in the process of switching to a different strain of pereskiopsis (a thicker hairier strain or species) so I'll be switching everything out anyways, I may just use completely new soil. Anyways my new plan of action should work out good. I am going to be taking everything out of my grow room and i'll clean/sterilize everything and suck up any gnats into my vacuum. Then I will change the soil in all my pereskiopsis pots (that seems to be where the worst of the infestation is) Then I will spray everything down with water based pyrethrum. I will innoculate the soil with that gnatrol stuff. Then I will put DE on top of the soils. I will continue to treat all the plants with the pyrethrum. I think that I should be able to get a handle on this infestation with this plan of action.

    tricotyledon trich seedlings

I know! I need to transplant them but i'm nervous to do it so soon. I will just have to dry the sand out and then put them in another container with space in between them.

    Introducing two newly named clones

Wow. Beautiful. It makes me so happy that I have little babies of these crosses growing right now.

My pereskiopsis soil has trichoderma. Wouldn't that kill off any other culture I put in there?

    tricotyledon trich seedlings

I've had quite a few of these and they always grew into normal seedlings. Actually a lot of them ended up having more ribs than the dicotyledon seedlings. I once had a monocotyledon seedling too, but it had no growth point and never grew out. It just got really thick roots and didn't have a growth point. I got a ton of them from nitrogen's crosses recently. Here's some pictures. Tricotyledon L. koehresii (I think, or it's just deformed) Tricotyledon TPMxN1 Tricotyledon TPMxTPQC

The stuff I'm getting is a concentrate that you mix with water and then use.

    Gnat/Gnat Larvae Infestation

The product I found is called Riptide Waterbased Pyrethrin ULV Concentrate. It has these ingredients: Pyrethrins...............................5.0% Piperonyl Butoxcide.....................25.0%. Is it normal for the pyrethrum to have piperonyl butoxcide in it? Sorry or all the questions. I'm just want to be sure about this before i buy it. Thanks.

    Gnat/Gnat Larvae Infestation

So here's my attack plan. I am going to get some water based pyrethrum. I will spray all of my plants with them in that grow room. I am also going to set out a bunch of sticky traps to catch the adults that are flying around. I'll spray them every 5-10 days for the next month or so and just keep a close eye. Also I've been killing the visible ones manually. Lol. They are making weird spots on my loph grafts and it's "bugging" me out. Lol.

    Gnat/Gnat Larvae Infestation

Well thanks for the advice. Is pyrethrin the same as pyrethrum? I am searching for water based pyrethrum and I keep finding "water based pyrethrin" EDIT: after some research I found that pyrethrin is basically pyrethrum. I am just trying to find some water based stuff now.

    Gnat/Gnat Larvae Infestation

okay. I'll look into that. Thanks. Is thrips going to threaten the life of my plants? Or is it more just cosmetic damage?

    Gnat/Gnat Larvae Infestation

Shit. It is thripes.... What can I do? They're all over a bunch of my plants! They haven't been doing a ton of damage, not yet anyways, but i want then gone. How can I kill these fuckers!?

    Gnat/Gnat Larvae Infestation

There are gnats flying around, but then there are little white slender bugs crawling around on some of the plants as well. Also on my pereskiopsis leaves. They seem to be focused on the pereskiopsis. They have lets and they crawl. I almost thought they were the larvae form of the gnats that are in that room, but I guess not. Not sure what they are, I'll have to spray my plants with something I guess. I thought it was under control with the jumping spiders. They seem to keep most of the other bugs in check. But i'm noticing more and more. (I have a little ecosystem going on in my grow room)

    Gnat/Gnat Larvae Infestation

Thanks for the responses. If they were gnat larvae would they be crawling around on the tops of the plants or just the soil?

    Show off your freaks

That's good to know myco. Thanks for telling me! I'll have to try it on some of my grafts.

I love BAP. I've been BAPing a lot of stuff lately. I have yet to try it on a loph though. Mostly just trichos.

What did you do to your cacti today?

I root my cacti inside usually near a window in indirect light. Today i grafted some ariocarpus seedlings to pereskiopsis. It was a mixed astrophytum pack from koehres. Did 3 on each pere with vertical grafts.
  17. Yeah, if I were you i'd test this out with something like plain jane bridgesii or pachanoi seed.

Still in trouble with my L. williamsii

I can see a few problems with it. The big sized plastic pot, the bark chunks (I think) i see in the soil, and the rock top dressing, That is the ultimate mixture for moisture retention and it's probably overdoing it for the loph causing some rot. I usually stick to terra cotta pots with loph and mineral soil. This way it can dry out faster.

St Peter, the hardy lil saint.....

Oh man. That's sad! That kind of behavior should be punishable by death! Just kidding man! By spurt do you mean a pup?
  21. If they're used to growing in sun they will need bright lights to keep growing at the same thickness. Your best option may be to make them go dormant. That's what I do with all my big plants and I stick to seeds and grafting in the winter.

    Grafts -Photos & Updates

Yeah with that many pups the scion will definitely slow down quite a bit especially as the pups start to get bigger. It could even stall completely. It'll be interesting to see what happens though.

    Flower photo heavy 2013 season

My pereskiopsis do that when I first move them from inside to outside, but it only drops the weak leaves, then after it drops those it starts to grow bigger thicker leaves and stems and the growth rate increases.
  24. I just thought I would make a thread to update with all my pictures of my plants. Here are some pictures.
  25. Wow! There are so many amazing clones floating around Australia. Beautiful!
