Confusa
Hello there,I'm hoping someone here can help me as I've come to somewhat of an impass trying to germinate my C. Paniculata seeds.I've searched on google for info but without success, the best I could find is that they may require 'chemical scarification'.I assume this is to simulate a bird/ other animals digestive system?I have HCL acid, so I could add to water and soak the seeds, but I'm unsure of what acidity/ duration to use?Any help would be appreciated.Cheers

LokStok
hey there Confusa,Chem scarification can be by a number of methods, common ones are ethyl alcholol, ether & prob most common- Gibberalic acid.Check this out. They did trials that showed GA @ 400mg/L for 36 hrs then 25 degC gave 75% germination.Gibberalic acid (GA) is easily sourced-ebay, local scientific/lab supplies, sometimes even chemists.I'm interested in getting hold of some seed, did you score it from the couple of ebay sources, or elsewhere? Confusa
Sweet thanks for the responses,Yeah I got them off ebay from the guy thats selling 10g and 50g packs. I brought 10g but from some reason they sent me two parcels with 10grms in each which I'm not complaining about. It's a shame I'm in NZ or I could flick some your way. Thanks for the link also, when I got them they looked like fig.7 in fruit form but now I've removed the orange coating from a heap of them so they look like fig.1 now.Judging by the charts it looks like ethanol will be sufficient cause I've got a heap of seeds anywayCheers
Confusa
I had second thoughts about the GA3 lol, I decided to go ahead and buy some off ebay. It seems like something that will come in handy again in future.

Torsten
as PH said, freshs eed will germ easly. however older seed often germinates with much delay. cycle wet / dry for a few months and they can pop up many months later.
