Lets make this a mycology Resoruces thread, If you have any text books and such, please add to this thread!!

No sure on how you guys feel on the issue of "Freedom of Information" but i strongly beleave that people without much money should be given access to learning materials that people with money can use.

Hense why i will be seeding this below torrent for a few weeks, Thought i would share it.

Currently there are 2 torrents, One contains lots of Paul Stamets works, and the other package are great text books in the field of mushroom identification.

If no one objects to this i will create a similar list for General Ethnobotany.

- How To Download Bit-Torrent -

5 simple steps

1. download Utorrent and install

2. click link for appropriate package

3. Once at isohunt click on "download.torrent" and run it.

4. wait for downloads to complete, Utorrent will manage your .torrent downloads

5. SEED SEED SEED!

If you only require one book from a package, simply download the .torrent file and then in utorrent uncheck the files that you do not what to download, this was you can download only 1 book from the package if only 1 book is of interest to you.

- About Bit-Torrent -

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing communications protocol first introduced by Bram Cohen in 2001. Instead of using the original distributors bandwidth and hosting all the time, bit torrent protocol shares data with new recipients, which is then used to interface with the next recipient, thus alleviating the cost and pressure on the original distributor. Azureus is one of the most popular BitTorrent client applications since its inception in 2003. BitTorrent has become especially helpful in music and movie downloads over the Internet. In this free video series, Matt Nichols, an expert web and graphic designer, explains how to use BitTorrent software to download music. Learn the basics of BitTorrent, how to choose a BitTorrent client, how to install Azureus, how to download files through Azureus, how to use torrent files, how to do port forwarding, and how to upload torrent clients. Experience a new way to search the internet for music and and start sharing and downloading music today!

For people who live under a rock and are still unaware of .pdf files go here.

I strongly recomend that if you like these books you go purchase them when you can afford to.... but you should not be disabled in learning due to your money problems!!

This post might eb removed from fourm, not sure on the rules in regards to this, Get your text books while you can!

I've unchecked all the other stuff but it happens again and again.

Maybe that's just the "seed" data.

Once you dowload the seed file you will have to open it in your your bittorrent program. Then it should download the whole thing.

With bittorrent files while you are downloading you are uploading at the same time to other torrent users.

If you have too many going at once it can chew your data usage fairly fast if you don't set upload limits.

Haha no probs Punkin, Magicdirt pritty much explained it, You will notice in the "file" list of the "seed data" you will see the files that you dont whant marked as "skip".

skipfiletorrent.jpg

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Once the file gets to 100% you can open it, just by double clicking the name of the file, in the "files" tab (see above).

Then just delete the torrent (not the Data) after you have seeded back to the community.

Assuming you did download this, this is all in theory please do not incriminate yourself.

you kick ass vaul, nice work, maybe we could have a library at the top of each subforum, thanks anyways.

objection to this type of thing is pretty rare now and torrents get posted here all the time

i don't know if it warrants a sticky, we could have pages and pages of stickies really. problem with torrents is they tend to die.

well they will only die if we dont seed them

Im going to d/l the Paul staments collection and seed for a couple of weeks if a couple of peeps do this we should be cool, at such point it dies one can/could/should burn as a hard copy eg. DVD and then pass onto others at meets or on here etc. i plan to do this if ppl are interested...

Wanna d/l the Mycology pack but its 5.5gig dunno if i can spare that much on d/ls but if it can be passed on as a dvd/usb/hardcopy then i would be more then happy to contribute to the continuation of future circulation in such format

Thank you Vual, i managed to stumble through obtaining the two books i needed. As you say, it's no substitute for a hard copy and i will still be wishing for that when my birthday rolls around.

At least i can look up specific info when i need it now. :worship:

........ maybe we could have a library at the top of each subforum, thanks anyways.

Hopefully the forum mods will see a library sticky in each sub forum would be very beneficial to the learning process.

I have many "pirate" books but if i find a book i love i always go and by it, Unless you want to carry a laptop with you on all your bush walks a hard copy is a must.

I will happily seed these 2 packages for ever if this was made a sticky. And remember guys if you download please seed back .. even just for a hour.

Fantastic idea -YT- legally we can pass copys along the grapevine if the recepitent agrees simply taht they will trash the dvd after 24hrs due to copywrite laws ^_*.

-YT- the reasion the mycology pack is so large is it contains a entire DVD move called " Lets Grow Mushrooms DVD ", you can choose not to download this if you dont have the spare bandwith, swim might even/has already put the dvd online for stream if he can find the time.

Remember guys please dont incriminate yourself, Personality i dont give a fuck because i believe so strongly that information should be free, spose i might change my mind one day if i ever discover something new and write a book ;)

EDIT: come to think about it, a IPAD with my entire eBook library on it would be 1000% more beneficial to the bushwalker then a backback of heavy books, nothing is illegal about owning a hard copy of a book in your home library and having a digital copy on your e-book reader.

Spose if one was serious about having a portable library then it would probably be worth purchasing the rights to the eBook from amazon/kindle at least that way some money can be donated back into research and allowing the book writers to continue writing books. 0_o
