0 Psylocaria Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) Glaukus, Thanks for playing. Hope to see a bunch of other 2 to 3 year old tersecii's. Any age actually, I don't care. Recently posted tersecii seedling in the sowing out thread, but will post more of the progress here. The mother is interesting, four feet tall with three branches. 0 ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) sowed some Terscheckii MN 0531 E. Palos Blancos, 909, Tarija, Wuliwya , these apparently like to be spineless when larger... and these two from the Silvery lands where apparently native languages may be lost, but the cacti remain Terscheckii Estanzia Marzan 1100m P. Catamarca http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santiague%C3%B1o_Quechua I know it's a long time ahead of them before seeing much in the way of features ... but I guess every little bit along the way counts ...and if mods stop editing my posts about cats ...without consent , ike some psycho bus driver, jerking the bus about swerving angrily ... x] just for ringing their bell more than once ...and if I decide ...by the time that I do....that it hasn't pissed me off enough to give SAB the finger https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhyS-pCrcY4 Edited December 28, 2014 by ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ

0 Psylocaria Posted February 5, 2016 So this guy has got me confused starting to throw pups around the base, it's got me wondering whether or not it might be a candicans x, Thoughts?
0 sagiXsagi Posted February 8, 2016 could be pasacana. also could be taquimbalensis, but I doubt that Call EG, he will have an answer
0 Evil Genius Posted February 13, 2016 (edited) Hey guys, I changed the title because it seriously messed with my OCD and hurt my eyes. The name is Trichocereus terscheckii. Psylocaria, what you have there is a standard Trichocereus candicans. They are variable too and can look similar to Tr. terscheckii at an early age! Edited February 13, 2016 by Evil Genius
0 Psylocaria Posted February 15, 2016 (edited) EG, I would have to agree with you that due to the clustering of pups around the base, T. candicans would be indicated. I however have a couple reservations against jumping to the conclusion that this is a straight candicans plant. 1. Spination and Ariola spacing is more consistent with tall Terscheckii specimens I've seen as opposed to what I've seen as the common candicans which I've seen in cultivation here in the desert southwest. 2. The plant came from a whole highly variable group of seedlings Labeled as T. terscheckii from a vendor of which I have seen their mother plants, both of which flower in the same greenhouse. This makes me believe that it's highly likely that the seed batch is hybridize due to open pollination. Edited February 15, 2016 by Psylocaria
0 sagiXsagi Posted February 15, 2016 I should add that some individual pasacanas and taquimbalensis can pup early on. BUT I think EG is right
0 Evil Genius Posted February 15, 2016 (edited) Yeah you know, let it grow for a while. This doesn´t have to be decided today. A Candicans doesn´t nearly get as big as a Terscheckii, so just observe and see how it goes. Personally, I think it has a different distance between the areoles, by far not as broad ribs as Tr. terscheckii and an overall untypical spination. Not speaking about the three pups, that are completely untypical for a Tr. terscheckii at that age too. So yeah, who knows. There are some types that are untypical, so just observe and keep us updated. As a general thing, I´d just recommend that you rather think of horse instead of Zebra when you hear hooves. That´s a saying that´s used in medicine. There are much more standard plants, that just happen to look a little bit untypical than hybrids. That can be caused by the environment, climate, watering cycle, daylight time, etc. That all influences a plant and often lead to weird plants. But that doesn´t make em a new species. But you never know and never say never. Time will tell...it´s a nice plant no matter what. Edited February 15, 2016 by Evil Genius
