Question

Picked up 2 nice finds this morning at the addison road markets in marrickville.

I think the first one is most likely a Notocatcus magnificus however the second I have no idea about.

This is the first Gymnocalycium I've owned and I haven't been able to find anything to similar looking online so let me know your thoughts.

Looks like Parodia magnifica and Gymnocalycium mihanovichii or could be var. fredreichii.

No worries. Parodia is synonymous with Notocactus by the way.

the standard mihanovichii is kinda boring and short lived, the multi colored cultivars are much more entertaining. the parodia mag, is great, those things grow into some show specimen beasts :)

I actually really like the colour of this gymno, I had never really been to interested in them before (although I had never really seen many up close) but I do love the deep earthy colours in this cacti so it's definitely sparked some new found interest in gymno's.

Do you know if they flower pretty readily/easily stillman? how old are your plants and what size pots are they in?

Snowfella I'm really looking forward to watching my plants come to life this spring and summer and I'm hoping I might start getting some flowers around the garden!

Just wait till you nuke it with some direct sunlight and it goes bright reddish!

Mine has started to do this.

Glad I looked in this thread as I recently received one of these as a present but had no idea what it was.
