my babies has turned to mush NO TRIC PURUVAN 1 of 3 i only have .I murdered my babie,total shattered.I quickly removed it and tossed it under the microscope and tried a make up camera too microscope snap.Tell me please wtf have I dune ,

Can you give us an idea of what has happened? Or how it compares to the other, healthy, plants you have?

well the other 2 are quiet fine but boy its disheartening when yah get 10 seeds and after week get 3 seedling only to have 2 the odds suck lol.but thank god astrophytum babies are going off and lophies are starting looks like might have a varigated astrophytum and that has made me happier.

question how long should I keep incubated in humid condition after they have started growing. to slowly going outside .As this babie was inside still ,keeped damp from under pott watering and sat on the incubation cabinet so nice and warm.Do yah think I cooked it ?nice sunny but not diect >

They look to me like they hadn´t had enough humidity during the first weeks and died.

Keep the box sealed, and very humid, at least for a month or two.

Then, take the lid off, and cover it with muslin.

Mist it every few days, and slowly let it get dryer and dryer. With longer gaps between mistings.

It seems to be a 'your results may vary' type of thing, but I keep them really moist for at least one month.

re: sandwich box method

keep it humid inside and allow for some air exchange every few days.

after the initial germination and "fuzzy" cotton like root hairs have

given way to the main tap root. you can lower the humidity a bit

and allow for more frequent air changes.

If the seedlings root hairs are damaged at this stage

root development will be seriously hampered... leave them alone

do not try to upright your plant.

If there's a seed case "locked" on top your plant

use a eye dropper and wet the case (gently) and increase humidity.

the plant should rid itself of it without additional aid within a few days.

seedlings can be up righted by gently nudging soil around the base

I've used a sharpened tip of a pencil to gently push a small wedge of support

over a few days time most can be standing tall with a little help.

As long as your water content isn't too high you can keep this going for months

if you develop a mold or other contamination you should allow for some evaporation

as your first line of defense. never have your soil be "wet" moist is perfect.

imo, over watering and "fiddling with the plants" are the greatest source of failure

with inexperienced germinators

after a months time (depending) you can start hardening the plants by leaving

the unsealed lid "on" the box and rotating it 20-45º for air transfer.

and a slow adaption for dryer air as well as less filtered light exposure

you should be in good shape in a few months...

Thanks for the replies guys ,I have noticed some of my young lophies have not developed roots and sort of on there side .is humidity the cause of this ,soil is moist not wet humidity ? temp around 25-28 throughout day lights are approx 240mm above propergation box astrophytums are raging but lophies seem slack especially the violet flower variety williamsii,Ill give yah up date in few days but thats for the input ,no further deaths have occured.
